Spanish Red Wine Tip

What’s the campsite at Haro like? Thinking of stopping there in May for a couple of nights after arriving at Santander guessing about 3 hours from port?
There is a Mercadona within walking distance takes. The site is fine, facilities clean and warm in winter, has a few permanent looking pitches. The restaurant is good, Haro itself is lovely , good tapas and we have been on the Muga wine tasting tour.
Only reservation is if you dont like cats, there are a few, well cared for, cats about they will come and sit with you if you like them but are quite good at going away if you dont 5f4c286a-005e-4dc4-bcef-00b64fbd0b28.webp wanted to bring these two home the little ginger only has 3 legs.

Whilst you go to get your wine in Mercadona don't forget the pastel de natas too, we've had them from a few places and the Mercadona ones are the best. Probably best to scoff them after the wine though! 😄

There is a red wine in Lidl called Gamellon, usually retails for 2.50 euros but sometimes comes down to 2 euros a bottle. Their Sommelier usually rates it at 9 which is really good. As a budget wine I think its really great value , and in my opinion much better than the Guvnor. Always remember wine is a personal wine where the best wine is the one you like.

Wine is so subjective, we like rioja John's elder son doesn't like it at all.
My favourite wine is Amarone, but they all vary in taste and quality, John and I don't have the same palate but we do both like Merlot. John's son likes shiraz, no matter which one i have tried I end up with a mega headache.
Oh to get back and try some more.

Guvnor and a big slice of Mercadona tortilla and some Russian Salad from their deli. That's a van-lunch right there.
That's just being lazy. You can whip up a 'tortilla Española' in 20 minutes, the Russian salad takes a little longer, but come on, home made is always gonna be better.

Heard so many people sing the praises of the Guvnor, went and bought a bottle from Mercadona, both me and the wife took a few swigs and then threw it down the toilet, in my opinion the worst wine i've ever tasted.
Its smooth but too sweet for many and after initially being a fan I moved on to The Gathering Storm from Majestic

We had the best tortilla I have ever tasted (and perfectly cooked) at the Zaragosa Municipal campsite, on our way here to Cabopino.

Agreed. Yesterday we tried the Guv’nor white. Very good for the price
Another Guv'nor fan here.
Tried the white last year was initially sold on it but the white didn't seem to travel home so well. It didn't taste as nice in uk as it did in Spain.
The red works in both climates for me.
Cheers 🍷

Haro is great , the Alcampo supermarket has more choice of wines and cheap fuel as we'll, although we didn't stay over in December as its too cold we have done before but always on the aire in town.
