Hi

Hope to be bumbling around Spain Dec/Jan - no real plans but not the costas.

Will be need (or want?!) snow chains? If so - any recommendations for Ducato 16" wheels?

We do have M&S flake tyres all round

Do you carry snow chains in the UK?
Listen to weather forecasts or use apps...plan sensible routes...I don't carry chains..but did 25 years ago...Spain keeps its roads very clear when needs be...

If not the Costas will you be in the Pyrenees?
Will you arrive in Spain by boat or by driving through France?

If travelling thru france you need to carry chains. Not sure if anyone would actually check and even though we have them I would try to avoid snow rather than have to use them.

Driving through France, no idea where we're crossing into Spain yet. Won't be touring the Pyrenees but no real plans as to what else.
(last time in Spain we did get snow en route to Madrid but it was cleared by constant ploughs)

Old van we used to have snowchains (and tyres) but we did a lot of snowboarding from it.

UK if its snowy we tend not to drive.

Just don't know what to expect....

We never carried snow chains but after being caught in snow between Teruel and Pamplona in 2020 we now have a pair of snow socks that we will carry ...just in case

That doesn't looks like bad enough for chains :)

Have to say, snow tyres are amazing. Going up the alps many years ago we got stuck early on normal tyres and needed chains. A few years later, same van, snow tyres, same road, we tried again and drove to the top in similar conditions without chains. Surprised they made that much difference.

Anyway, I'll get some chains ordered.....

This issue may be more the legal requirement on your tyres through certain departments in France.
There has been a few threads on the subject so try a search, in some departments it's compusory to have either M&S or the 3 peak symbol tyres.

Yep. I've M+S 3-peak and snowflake tyres OEM fitment 225/75 r16 (so includes the spare!)
(Was on the option list when I spec'd the van, and as getting 45% discount it was cheaper to get them fitted from new esp as you didn't buy the "normal" tyres too)

Will get chains anyway for piece of mind.

I'm not 100% sure but I thought tyres either had M&S or 3 peaks not both?
