We're a bit late leaving our Murcian apartment for our annual summer trip. I broke my wrist 8 weeks ago today and so it's kept us here for treatment. At 7.20 pm I see the surgeon and as soon as I'm out of the hospital building we're heading north. The motorhome is almost ready and we've got a long, hot, day to sit out waiting.

We wanted to go to the Pyrenees, but we've scoured the weather forecasts over the last few days and the coolest place is the lovely Galicia. So we're heading up there again. No contest between an average of 25° as opposed to the 35° elsewhere.

So, I'm going to do a travel log on here. It's always useful to refer back to and I hope it's interesting for some other Funsters.

I´ll await your log with interest - the last time we went up to Galicia to escape the heat we found 40C temps inland, and 25C on the coast, which was heaving with noisy surfers and also had open-air discos til 4.00am. Hopefully you won´t experience either ! :giggle:
Buen viaje!

The temperatures are much the same atm. I hope the coasts aren't heaving. We normally stay just inland, so 🤞🤞🤞

I'm in Chaves at the moment and it was 41 degrees yesterday 😰
Sure...that's to be expected inland..even in the north...we have had the past two summers in Galicia....we found places that can be cooler by 10°c. Will let everyone know when we get there if we got it right this year...🤔🇪🇦

Looking forward to following your trip we had a great trip last year and we’ll be back next 👍

Getting a bit impatient now, wanting to get on the road. The consolation is that we're in our cool apartment. Why are we leaving a holiday resort and a cool apartment? Exactly because it is a holiday resort at this time of year, with the associated crowding and noise. Also because it's too hot, during the best part of the day, for us to get out doing our stuff (mountain biking and walking). Instead we might be in a hot tin can 😄.

A 7.20 pm hospital appointment is a crazy time, but at least we'll have a few hours of cool driving under the full moon before we bed down for the night.

Tomorrow we are planning to get around Madrid!

So this is an area we haven’t been to so very much looking forward to your updates

hope you have a lovely time

Al 👍

Well, passed the test set by the surgeon last night and, instead of staying at IKEA in Murcia, we decided to get some kilometres under our belt.

When I've finished my late lunch, I'll catch up with some details.

Last night we stayed at San Clemente North of Albacete.

We arrived just before 11 pm so didnt see much. We watched the orange sun set on the last part of our drive, and later saw the orange, full moon, before we crashed out for the night.

This morning we got on the road early, (a) to get some cool kilometres under our belt and (b) to escape being tied up with the local market.

And sooo, since this mornings early start we've driven, and driven, cos stopping wasn't an option. It was so hot outside that everything we touched, washed our hands with, or drank (not from the same source) was warm.

The average temperatures today have been 40°. We pulled up a few times for the driver to have a break and another coffee. I searched for parking places with shade and eventually found the autocaravana area at Astorga. Arriving at 3 pm, after over a 500km drive, it wasn't/isn't too bad. We're consoling ourselves with the thought that tomorrow we'll be on the coast with around 24° temperatures 😊😊✌️✌️. Heading for Foz.

We're here atm.

And being kept fairly cool by one of our latest purchases.

Topped with (warm, no alternative) water and ice cubes it's keeping one of us cool 😂

Have you got cab air con ? Essential in 40c I'd have thought
Looking forward to following your trip 👍

Yes we have cab aircon and its lovely, but deceptive, whilst travelling. It makes it feel even hotter when we step outside

How was San Clemente? That was my choice en route to Portugal, but got vetoed because of the sewage drain, sounds like it would have been preferable to the one further on that we stayed at.

I think that came out bad in the translation. Didn't see, or smell, any sewage.

We found Astorga fine for an overnight stop, albeit very busy. Gaudi´s Episcopal Palace is stunning.

We cycled through Astorga some years ago when we rode the Camino Frances. It was 1 May and it was cold and wet! A far cry from today's weather.
