Some nice ideas on these vans and some not so nice

The corridor in a Sprinter (or Crafter in our case) isn’t too narrow if it’s designed correctly ;)

Comes with a decent sized bathroom too

NB - complete with a drop down sink

Shame they don’t do a model with a fixed rear bed, nice looking vans.
They do, it's called the Hymer Free S 600 :giggle:

Our Wildax Elara on a sprinter is the same length as this, fixed single beds, big rear garage. Downsides are the narrowness of the sprinter, real pinch point between kitchen/bathroom, you’d need to be sure you can live with it and difficult to keep under 3500, we couldn’t so went for4050 version.
Like the look of the RP but it was £50k more expensive.
Yes agree, the RP has gone up so much now they are established, incredible the price increase. The rebel 5.91 metre used to be £69995 plus just under 10k for the 4x4, that was about 79k, now they include the 4x4 and it’s 110k before the options.

But they have a big waiting list so people are paying it.

Yes, that’s about the same width as ours, fine if your relatively slim, but compared to full fat Motorhomes much more narrow!

We noticed the same in France in last 8 weeks

I will have a look at that.

I wont be in the market for a new van for a couple of years and pretty much know what it needs to be layout and spec wise.
Our current Globecar Camp scout Revolution isn't far off the mark, fixed longitudinal bed (rectangular in shape), large storage underneath, largish 12 volt fridge and a proper shower / toilet room. There is a lot more detail to this but that's the starting point. ideally it would be manufactured in the UK to hopefully make getting any problems fixed easier. Our Globecar is great but dealing with SMC isn't.

Wouldnt want a van with no washbasin, to wash hands after using the loo. He didnt give a length, but must be longer than our Globe car Summit Prime at 6.40m. I did like the electrics and the big garage is a must for us. Didnt get why loo had to be emptied from inside?

Crazy £80k van and no £20 sink!!

We’ve made an appointment to view one of their vans nearing completion on the 22nd of this month so will let you know what we think. It’s on our shortlist of companies to look at as we’re thinking a LWB Crafter might suit our needs.
Theres a lot about this van that ticks our boxes but need to see the fit and finish in the flesh.
Lack of a sink in the shower doesn’t bother us. For us, a decent size garage, longitudinal beds, bench seat instead of 2 transverse seats and quality components/electrics etc are the requirements so we’ll see how this van stacks up.

The owner, Kian I have to say was extremely helpful on the phone and went out of his way to explain the spec of the vans and why they do or don’t fit certain things…such as a sink in the shower. I think their preference is not to spoil the look of the van and cut more holes in the side of the van than necessary which may explain why the cassette toilet is internal and not external? Personally I don’t think this thinking is a bad thing.
He also explained that whilst ”Ultravans” as a business has only been going about 18 months, he and his staff have been in the trade for 15 years.
First impressions of the company were good so I hope the van lives up to our expectations when we see it 🤞

Philnanks please let us know how you get on.
If you could buy one and use it for a couple of years and give a detailed feedback it would be appreciated. We can then go and get one. :giggle:

😆 it would be my pleasure! You might have to wait though as we’re looking to purchase in 12-18 months time. 😬

Corrected that for you! 😄

Perfect timing I doubt if we will seriously start looking for a new van for 3 or 4 years.:giggle:

It will be interesting to find out what the quality is like and what size vans they build on, I would want the 4 GVW version or even better the bigger MAN version.
Still not sure about the cassette being removed from Iside the van.

Is the man tge bigger?

I thought it was badge and dealers that's the difference.

I should have brought a crafter tbh not my rubbish transit Carp - dpf etc

I think the MAN is the same size van but a bigger GVW option.

It appears from their website that Ultravans only build on the LWB crafter, that does seem very limiting as the shorter MWB one is very popular and just under 6 metres.

Looks good, quite impressive. As others have pointed out, no wash basin in bathroom, etc. Love the bed, don't need a settee though. Did I miss the fridge? We would not need such a big cooker oven, can't see the point. I'd want diesel heating as well, but overall looks promising.

My stepson has been puting vans together mainly as commisions, I haven't seen one myself in the flesh so I only know as much as anyone else looking at the website, some are not my cup of tea, but i guess he is going for a younger market.

Did you view the vans after all?
Yes we did…..went up on Friday and met the owner Kian. Was very impressed with the attention to detail and quality of the build. We saw a nearly finished van which was useful as we could see what you wouldn’t see in a finished one and know that there aren’t any shortcuts taken. We also saw Kian’s own van which is a couple of years old and whilst he’s changed and improved a few things, it was a lovely van.
Everything is bespoke and cabinetry etc built on site. The components used were all top quality and I liked the fact that they can tweak the build to suit my needs (within reason). We could change things like gas to diesel heating if we wanted but he gave a good reason as to why he chooses gas over diesel (cost mainly).

A few people have questioned why the toilet cassette door was inside. Kian’s view is that the Crafter is a nice looking van and many customers want a more discreet looking camper so why spoil the looks and risk water ingress by cutting unnecessary holes in it? You don’t get any smells coming inside by having the door internally so it makes sense.
The same goes for the water tanks and gas BBQ point which are all underneath the van.

The base spec of the Ultravan 2 is pretty comprehensive and is the one we would choose. Yes we would tweak a few things and maybe move the position of the fridge. We would make the bathroom slightly longer and lose 10cm of the sofa. The van is pre wired if you needed to add solar later on but you can obviously have that done at the time if you wanted it.
Not having a sink in there is fine with us. it’s not a big room and I really can’t see an issue with using the larger sink in the galley? The sensor light can be switched off for a night time use if needed and the shower curtain (which I thought I wouldn’t like) magnetically attached to the wall keeping it away from you…..it actually did aswell.

To sum up we were very impressed with Ultravans. There was no rush or pressure. Kian knows his stuff and comprehensively answered all of my questions. We left knowing that we would get a well built bespoke van that would stand the test of time and which suited our needs.

All we need to do now is to get the van, either a VW Crafter or MAN TGE…..just waiting on quotes.

Hope this helps?

The VW Crafter and MAN TGE are the same vehicle in every aspect except for the badge. They are made in the same factory. You can increase the payload on both, either as a factory option or retrospectively.….it’s a paper exercise and costs around £200-£300 Ive been told if retrospectively done.

Be careful if you opt for the 4x4 as you lose about 100mm of roof height due to the floor being raised up. Im 6‘4 and can stand up straight in a standard 2 wheel drive van….just.

Apart from being a bit more fancy and automatic it hasn't got anything we haven't got in our old ambulance and we have a few things that hasn't got.
Laugh as much as you like but the only real difference is about 50 grand.

Your joking, 50 grand, the difference is absolutely miles more than that.

I think a nicely fully fitted out one there would not be much change from £100k nowadays.

Yes all of those vans are lovely. Ok, if you always go onto fully serviced club sites. Not sure the younger market could afford one though.

:Eeek: you can get houses cheaper than that in Stoke, ok, I know you will say who wants to live in Stoke, but the principal is the same.

Thanks for the information it will be really interesting to see how you get on.

Is the fresh water tank under the van, I would be a bit worried about it freezing.

Looking at the layouts I think we would want the Ultravan 2 but with a seat like the Ultravan 4 instead of the sofa, a bit hard to tell until you actually see one.
Where are you thinking of moving the fridge to?
We had a diesel heater on our T5 and found them a bit noisy and smellier than the gas one on out current van.
Does save mucking about with as much gas though.

It looks a great van and it will be on the list to view in a couple of years when we seriously start looking.
