Some French person needs a good thrashing !!

Actually Ian, his point about a near miss isn’t an accident would have been an accident if not for my reflex avoidance tactics.
I always enjoy France though, all things considered.
Phil

Actually Phil I was referring to his point, "You don't have to come, it's not compulsory"

I would have pulled over, made a cup of tea, relaxed, maybe watched a dvd, sunbathed, or even slept and moved on when the traffic eased........checking on google maps

No worse than this side. Came off the tunnel, M20 planned closure. Link road to Canterbury full of pot holes. Then A2 just as it meets M25 closed two lanes and slip road. Why?

shawn&emma Being spread out more over here is normal, France is four times the m² of GB. Much more space to play and get lost, or misplaced in.

iandsm I'm confused ... but for me .. that's pretty much an everyday state of affairs. Either which way, no worries, it's only a little bit of teasing and banter. ;););)

I find the advantage of travelling with a motorhome is when the traffic becomes a constant crawl I pull off and wait till it evaporates . then resume the journey . I am no longer in the situation where I needed "blues and twos" to get there asap. :)

We’re currently in Luxembourg having spent some days (and k’s) in France and Germany. Both of us drive the Motorhome and have been really surprised at the driving standards in all four countries - England being the first, and worst, by far. As soon as we left Calais on the motorway, the only cars that overtook us and did not return to the inside lane were British registered ones. Naturally they had tail gaited us if they had been forced to come over, whereas in the others, no tail gating, reasonable overtaking and generally courteous to other road users.
Not really looking forward to our roads next month!

So we left Adge this morning at 7am to travel up to Chalon-sur-Soane. The Sat nav says 5 hours via A7 so off we tootle. No warning signs on the A7 overheads but at J17 Les Tourrettes (very appropriate as it turns out) the full motorway was closed !! So ALL the motorway traffic was diverted via the N7 up to the next junction for the A7 J16.

If you look at google maps you will see that the distance is about 11km. But the whole journey was on Country type roads. Stop start ALL the way literally bumper to bumper!! When we eventually neared J16 we found that there was one traffic light, operating on it's normal 4 way sequence to let through both the local traffic and ALL of the A7 motorway traffic. So this one traffic light it was effectively controlling all the traffic being forced off the motorway 11km behind it.

So have a guess how long that 11km took to drive ?? SIX, YES SIX Tourrette hours 6 !!!!

All because some cretin in the traffic section thought it would be a good idea to close the whole motorway for repairs without checking if the alternative route could take the vehicles. If Monsieur or Madam Cretin had actually driven this route he / she may have thought, hmm that traffic light might be a choke point and made arrangements to alter it's sequence at least !!
Sounds like some of the UK roads. Oh no thats right the motorways are all stop start with huge traffics jams and the non motorway roads are clogged solid

Mmmmm, intersting. We travel often between oop north to our home in Cervera del Maestre. We never ever use toll roads. Must say we've not encountered any problems, touch wood, in the fifty odd years but have enjoyed the quiet peaceful roads, lovely en-route restaurants. Not enjoyed the daft fuel prices though.
