Solar use recharging cycle.

What's your alternator output?
Honestly...I don't know....however I have been informed that Hymer upgrade the Alternator...and also my base vehicle is a 3 litre Renault Master an unusual base vehicle for Hymers...

Do you have the receipt for the new one that was fitted in Norway should be able to check from the part number.

I do Lenny...but due to the extortionate cost I decided I didn't ever want to see it again...I will ask Judith to find it and only pass on the relevant part number...
Thanks for this information...

Hi Lenny
Thanks for your reply.

I've been offered a Victron 30amp B2B that was bought by a friend of a friend, he ended up not using it in his build. Apart from being able to tweak it if I ended up fitting a new alternator can you think of any other disadvantages installing it instead of a 50amp.

as far as i know this is the exact model.

Thanks

That's the same one I have and I'm pleased with mine.
There are reports of them getting too hot and reducing charge amps to compensate, but I think this is mainly if incorrectly installed without adequate ventilation.

Do you know what output your alternator is producing?

As long as it's installed with plenty of space for airflow around it as they tend to run hot, the 50 amp one runs much cooler.

Is it a diy install item. I've read lots of comments in the Amazon reviews section that make me a little bit unsure

I've since installed the 30 amp B2B and have run a few tests, these have been limited as the motorhome is parked up atm. But the readings on the shunt app seem to indicate it'll be fine.

My thoughts now are is it possible to add another component to the system that would allow the starter battery some of the limited solar power in the winter parked up months. The leisure battery is fully charged with the ongoing solar being lost.

You need to drive the van for an hour or more starting with the batteries fairly low. Then you will find once the B2B gets warm the output will drop to 20 amps or less.

Vanbitz Battery Master available through this forum for about £60.
It's a small box about the size of a cigarette packet with 3 wires.
It trickle charges the starter battery from the leisure battery when it senses that the starter battery voltage is 0.75v lower than the leisure battery voltage.
So your solar keeps your leisure battery charged and the Battery Master keeps your starter battery charged.
Lots of us on here have them.

True, but a 25% lithium could easily run that side of things.
