Hello from sunny Leeds (yeah, not really). Mr Moon and I decided that between the various disappointments we subject ourselves to watching the Rhinos, the mighty whites and the F1, we really ought to get out and see what else there is to see in the world so we bought a 20 year old Elddis Sunseeker.
Now we knew it would have some problems but it was relatively cheap, had lots of history, a long M.O.T. and we basically just fell in love. It drove the 200 miles home smoothly and we rolled up outside feeling quite excited.
The daughter is a mechanic (apprenticed on vans) and the first thing she did was make that noise, you know the one mechanics make....mmmm. 'it's an M.O.T. failure is this Mum" says she. It actually had a hole in the chassis, she took photos to prove it.
We were quite unfazed, expecting to have to spend money on it and there started a three week intensive research session to find someone who was willing to take on the work. Turns out it is a huge job and having now found a brave (and soon to be rich) soul to drop the subframe, needlescale all the rust from the underside and weld the old girl back together properly we are eagerly awaiting her return hopefully sometime before Christmas.
In the meantime we are occupying our time tracking down other bits and pieces she will need, such as the blasted 5 leaf habitation door hinges. Looking forward to picking some brains on here for replacements, updates and improvements and hopefully pass on some chuckles or at least the odd wry smile with the tale of two old idiots and a van.
