The other side was fine, no issues. Looks like the 2 securing pins were not pushed in on the lock nut. Unbelievable really 🤦🏻‍♂️
You'd be amazed at how often that happens . Forget to bend the lugs in on the nut or no split pin and over time it just works loose. But usually by the time it goes wrong and the whole assembly departs from the vehicle its hard to pinpoint the exact cause.. but its the most likely reason.

Just found something similar on a freelander I just acquired, decided to change the pads and discs for it’s upcoming MOT and found the driveshaft nut hadn’t been straked over,
As far as I know it’s original from the factory, sure it was still tight but that indentation is put on the shaft for good reason,
