Following on from one smoke vapes likely banning it would be interesting to know if Funsters still smoke fags or not.
From my part, me and the missus stopped 40 years ago, so it’s a No from me.
Phil upmerizla.

Stopped 40 years ago, and 35 years ago, and 30 years ago , and actually 25 years ago. So a no from me - eventually

a hard habit to crack .. but not as hard as alcohol that I also quit many years prior to quitting fags

Tried to stop many times. Was on 40-60 a day aged 30sh! Wanted to extend my house, building society wanted an extra £150 a month, trying to work out where I would get that from and realised only one way. Smoked myself stupid on a Sunday ready to give up on Monday, saved one for Friday and didn’t really enjoy it. That was 30 years ago, had a bit of a wobble when things went a bit pear shaped but then met someone who detested smoking so not had one since( and I married him) so pleased I gave up. My parents smoked then all 3 of us kids did. They gave up early Dad offered £100 to each of us to give up so first 1 got £100 , 2nd same but also first think I got £200 or £300 as sister last to give up.

Stopped on a Sunday morning after a heavy night on the beer and cigarettes.
Woke up with a hacking cough and thought it would be good to see my unborn first grandchild grow up.
Went to his 21st birthday party last month, together with his five other siblings 🙄

For 40 years I stopped after every fag in both my Service careers. Tried cigars and realised I was smoking just as many of them! Never coughed even coming of the pitch.
Pipe? Cost me a fortune in matches! Then one day a dear farmer friend popped round to say his son had died suddenly (not smoking related) but appreciated the pain in his face and instantly screwed up the packet of fags in my pocket and been clean for the past 20 years! Strange what makes you kick a habit!

Me and Mrs Emmit both gave up on the 17th October 1985.

Two pay days to Christmas. No money in the bank and three kids.

What could you say to your children when they don't get presents.

Cigs were £1 a packet at the time.

Stopped 20 years ago, eventually. First cigarette aged 9, all because my parents went on and on about not smoking. Neither of them did. Saddled me with a 35 year habit I no longer have. Just the heart attack as a reminder😀.

Still a smoker and a heavy one:(
I felt like that frequently recently. I was an expert at giving up. Done it loads of times! 🙄
Had to get a plane so left them at home. Didn’t buy any when I got to the other side and not bought any since (only 28 days).
Using the gum.
Challenges everyday.
Helped being in a different environment for a couple of days to break some links and prove some things to myself.
NHS app helped me.
I smoked to feel normal. When you feel you smoke just to feel normal it’s hard to believe it can be as simple as stop having access to them and fight the urge.
Feels like it’ll never go away but they do, sooner than you think.
Remind myself of this daily.
Good to have a distraction when urges creep in.
Good luck or you ever do give quitting a go again.

We both started and stopped in the 1960s. There were cigarette machines in the stairways in Filton House offices of BAC.
When I left home and moved to work here I shared rooms with another apprentice. She was so cool! Had a boyfriend and everything and smoked so of course I wanted to be like her.

This is why I said everyone is different above. I went from between 6-14 pints a night every night for 10+ years and wouldn't dream of skipping a night. Smoking as many as 80 a day.

I can stop drinking dead easy. Smoking has been a major fight with many failures before I finally succeeded (so far). Since I went fulltiming I now go weeks without a beer and when I do fancy one will drink 1 can and end up leaving half the 2nd can when I am on my own. I can still neck 10 pints in a night when in company though :D Then not touch the stuff for weeks.

Anyway, I say all this just to point out that addiction is a personal thing in my opinion and what one person finds hard another finds easy. A method that works for one won't work for the next person. And a system to help will not help everyone.
We need to leave as many avenues open as possible and with as little friction as possible.

I had my first big test of giving up smoking the other day. Stood in an industrial unit with all the doors closed and the owners had been in their working on his own smoking like a chimney. The place reeked of smoke and it hung in the air. He lit one up while talking to me and I sooooooooo wanted one the entire 2 hours I was in there :) I resisted the urge to blag one off him.

When I was 8 years old my sister and I took a senior service cigarette out of my grandads packet, and went to smoke it in the coal cellar. Two puffs each and we both went green:sick: . We have both been avid non smokers ever since:angel:

I stopped smoking in 1996. My Mum died of lung cancer in 2018 after smoking all of her life, I asked my GP am I safe as I gave up so many years ago and she said no you could still get lung cancer.
