Thinking of purchasing a toaster for the motorhome. All the ones I can see are 26 cms plus. Anyone got anything smaller that they could recommend?

I think you should be able to use up to 1500W on a 6A EHU, so why mess with lower wattage ones. They'll take longer and dry the bread more.
Alternatively, change your habit and have something else while away...
You’ll have the toast police after you 😂😂😂😂

We've got a Ridge Monkey XL which makes great toasted sandwiches, and toast - using the gas hob. 🍞

How about a simple frying pan. A good non stick one makes perfect toast and toasties.
In fact. I’ve just eaten one for my lunch.
Made it like a normal sandwich, butter both slices, cheese, ham, mustard and a grind of black pepper
Into a dry pan on medium heat. Five minutes a side. Better than anything those bloody toastie makers produce. About one tenth of the cleanup also.

I am now unexpectedly in the market for a small toaster after covering ours in extinguisher powder !
Was going to recommend mine but it’s too old to find one on sale now.
Better go back and re-read this thread 🤣

Hope everyone and the van is ok? I’m guessing the toast isn’t!

Neither is the toaster. It’s toast. 😀
but as for standing by and just getting the dog out and leaving …….

always do you best to extinguish a fire If it is safe for you to do so .
unless the fire your addressing prevents your exit.

We toast on a Tapanyaki grill if on EHU. Will do four slices in a couple of minutes. Also usefull for cooking the rest of breakfast.
Ridge monkey if off grid.

We have one of these 700W works fine £17.99 from here, I suspect most camping outlets sell them

The modern Swiss Luxx 2-Slice toaster 230V in white is excellent for caravanning, its so light, compact and efficient and features electronic browning control, stop button, auto pop-up and auto cut-off.

Specification:

  • 220-240V Mains powered.
  • 700 watts.
  • Dimensions: 22 L x 15 W x 15cm H.

Swiss Luxx stuff seems to be good. Our low wattage kettle is theirs.
Note however that in spite of the name and swiss flag logo they are Chinese.

It wasn’t the toaster, if it had been the fire blanket would have done a better job, that’s what I immediately pulled out (after turning off gas to oven) and left for my husband as I reached down and un-clipped the dog who had been sitting outside on a long lead, taking her to next pitch and alerting them.
Meanwhile husband had decided that blanket was not going to work inside oven and did the job with the powder extinguisher. Toaster was in drawer under oven and, well the powder everywhere so only things in the van that can be washed, are saved.
Currently oven/hob in bits and it won’t be until re-assembled that we know if ok.

Oh dear that sounds traumatic! Hope you are all ok and that you can clean everything up.

Finding one for sale is proving difficult, might just go for the Curry’s essential one at £8.99, they have them in stock at Cribbs where I am going tomorrow.

We used to toast and boil using the gas cooker, but gas getting expensive and harder to find, we thought why not use site electric, you're paying for it anyway!

We got one for our motorhome from Morrisons 10 years ago and still going strong. Compact, works really well (much better than our big one at home) and low cost.

Measure the slot, I bought a camping one at Go Outdoors and now have to buy the smallest bread to fit in it!

The Curry’s one is fine, lovely toast, fits into the basket in it’s slot in the campervan and only just a little more bread sticks out the top than our home toaster. Very crumbly, seedy bread !
