The handle for opening and closing the hymer skylight has unexpectedly seized. It's that stiff I can tell something will break if I force it.

I've tried pushing the window up incase it has formed a seal holding it in place but that hasn't helped.

What are my options here for getting it moving again?

Hi
I had this issue and had to remove the skylight and free up the cog mechanism

as said . the winding cogs need greasing ..

I did it when I replaced with dome and rubber seal .. not difficult ..

you can access the winder mechanism from inside the van, by removing the handle and the plastic frame and surround..

you can see the cogs it on this photo

To get access to the cog mechanism, you have to remove the skylight cover, to do this task, you really need to work from the roof of the van, there are a couple of locking washers at the end of the two metal rods, at the back and front of the skylight cover, once these are removed, you have clear access to the cog mechanism, that lifts and lowers the skylight, if nothing is actually broken, you should be able to clean the cogs and lubricate them, I did this and it now works like new, hope thi helps

I had a similar issue. Not a Hymer but I believe Knaus use the same parts. It was solved by getting some silicone lube into the screw mechanism used for lifting/lowering. It was so dry it had seized.

Thanks folks. Need to check and see if I a tin of grease here or whether I left it at work. Too windy today to be taking the skylight off anyway.

as I said.. it can be done inside without removing the dome... any grease you have to hand would do ..

As Jim says having taken off the handle on the inside you should be able to loosen the spindle by spraying it with a grease and applying a mole wrench to it.
