Canon R5 with 100-500mm best allround lens I have ever used, better than the EF 200-400mm 👍🏻
Thanks. I’m using the R at the moment and hoping to upgrade to the R5 this year. I bought the RF 100-400 which I’m very happy with, but sometimes wish I’d waited and got the 100-500. How did you find the autofocus on the R5?

Stunning, once Frankie from Canon showed me the best setting for BIF. One of the benefits of being a member of the ’Canon club’ their techies arrange and attend trips to photo ops and on this one Frankie brought around £1,000,000 worth of bodies and lenses for us to loan for the day and play with so I borrowed a R3 fitted with RF70-200mm, loved the camera but can’t justify the £5,000 for minimal improvements. If you are considering buying new then have a look at ukcameraclub.co.uk for great prices or mpb.com for 2nd hand. Pm me if you get the R5 and I can tell you how to set it up if you want.

Brilliant shots. We got very close to puffins in the Faroes a few years back, scurrying away from the footpath into their burrows and out as soon as we'd passed.

Skomer is great because the Puffins are so used to humans and will come within 2 feet from you.

Wow!

We spent two weeks on Orkney and saw (only) one with a brief glimpse of another and got two dodgy pics.

That top one is fantastic, Puffin in action!

Skomer is great.
You start off on the boat photographing a distant passing blob, sure that that must be a puffin.
An hour later walking the coast path you are cursing the damned things for getting under your feet as they waddle off to their burrows.
Worth taking the last boat of the day as it gives you more time. Easily enough on the island for 2 hours +
Above vid taken on phone.

p.s. I amused wife by whispering "I've lost Scabbers" during the pre trip briefing (If you've been you'll understand.)

Great photos by OP. (or is that OS?)

I absolutely love skomer too. Otter Spotter you went at best time as well, whilst young are being fed.
here's an example of type of opportunity. Feeding, a puffling, the white one. (Only one ever seen, didn't return next year, was probably predated, explanation given to me). Overview how many are about (look in the sky)

Having had the little jockeys flying past me on the Farne Islands on a few visits I appreciate that first shot. I can also understand how you can take 2000!
Well done 👍

Wow, you got a shot of the white Puffin ! It stayed on the water all day so we couldn’t get near it😢

I didn’t see any Pufflings and we only saw a few bringing food in so getting the flying shot was hard but I was chuffed when I got it

My shots were from 2018. I was early this year and the day after foul weather so almost everything was out fishing and feeding up. The days of queing up at 6:30am are gone but booking 4 months in advance guessing the weather isnt fun either.
The flying shot is one i'd be more than chuffed with.
Wife has just piped up her white puffin photos are better than mine. the joy of not changing lenses.( an old Nikon Bridge)
If you've been there once you'll be there again.

Beautiful shots! We were supposed to go on Monday for a birdwatching special, but it was cancelled because of the vile sea conditions. Maybe next year!
