It seems that the best EU roaming allowance for a 1 month contract is 30Gb (and probably the same for a 12 month contract?).

In the good old days we were used to a monthly 100Gb allowance which suited our needs perfectly.

But what do people do now when travelling through several different countries?

Staying in one country would be straightforward enough by just buying a local sim - but doing that in each country would result in a lot of faffing around.

So the solution would seem to be several sims each 30Gb?

Any other ideas?

Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly, but it does seem to say EU usage cannot exceed UK usage without incurring a huge surcharge?

Fair usage policy for roaming in the EU

The Roam-like home scheme is designed for customers who primarily live in the UK and make short trips to other European destinations. To safeguard against abuse, if your roaming usage is greater than your usage in the UK over any continuous 120-day period, you will be subject to a surcharge of 0.20p/MB (equivalent to £2/GB) for data, 0.04p/sec (equivalent to 2.4p/min) for outgoing calls, 0.01p/sec (equivalent to 0.6p/min) for incoming calls and 0.8p for sending an SMS

Tiekom data sim in the router, our 2 phones both have the £5 P/M RWG 5GB sims, no roaming or time restrictions in EU with unlimited calls and texts to UK numbers. Irish passport holder so the no restrictions is a necessity for us.

Thanks but it’s the continuous phone service that’s important to me, as in being able to make and receive calls from UK number, and NOT the data part… ✔️

It’s working on Popit but just expensive.
Just spotted you have an Irish passport (snap) - could you get an Irish SIM? I haven’t tried that wheeze myself, but I guess that ‘start SIM use in the country of SIM-origin’ isn’t an option - as I’m based in UK

Yes, I think that’s exactly what it means. Howevah, none of ‘em (IME) are very clear if they mean ‘volume of data usage’ or ‘time/days use of data’. Lebara seemed to say that if we purchased a £5 ‘top-up’ it would cover anything extra - but they were so unclear, we gave up.

Have you used the RWG £5 sim for extended period in the EU…? Like 4-5 months at a time? Can’t find their specific roaming policy, have you seen it?
