I find it difficult to read the speed on my Boxer cab instrument panel when wearing sunglasses, even at its brightest setting.
I needed something to mount my phone on the top of the dash to use a speed indicating app.
Now there are various proprietary devices to mount phones on the dash, windscreen and even air vents, but I’m not going to do that am I, when I can make my own?
Bent a piece of plastic as shown using a hot air gun (could have used metal instead)
Looks a bit messy as I had to put black tape on the back to stop it reflecting in the windscreen: must paint it instead sometime.
I then wedged it under the spring loaded clamp thingy in the middle of the dash.
As shown it only works with phones with a fold back cover, but the design could be modified to suit other styles.
If I’d lifted up the device in the dash I could have clamped the phone directly, but I found that intruded on my vision somewhat, so discounted it.

I use one similar to this and it puts the display right in my eyeliner just above the steering wheel.
Needed a couple of bits of felt stuck to it to stop it moving/marking the dash.
Easy to move between vehicles.
Phone also runs a dash cam app simultaneously.

I bought myself a GPS Speedo (Mph/KPH) that plugs in to a USB port that came with its own mini mount. Only a few quid. The central spot is reserved for the SatNav.
