Hi everyone

We are thinking of going to Spain after Xmas
We have not done this before. We travel quite a lot around the uk. Love it. But everyone says go to Spain for the winter. Or 90 days. We have lithium batteries solar panels pretty well self sufficient. Mobile router. We like the internet.
QUESTION is What would be the best sim to put in our mobile router please.

Any other tips for travelling to Spain would be much appreciated.

As I indicated its because they are sold as UK sims, I suspect if you bought a Lebara sim abroad it would have a similar restriction for use in the UK.

think this partly came about due to people getting cheap contracts in the UK and then using them when abroad for long periods of time (eg at holiday homes for 6 months) and gobbling lots of data, this was before a lot of them put restrictions on.

Many Spanish sums might restrict data used using the roaming directive amounts but calls and texts are as in Spain.
We use Digi cards in the phones and I was amazed to find that there was no charges for anything when used elsewhere in the EU and the UK.
I could ring UK mobiles and landlines all foc.
Same with the Yoigo sim,which is a phone one really, but used in a router. On from leaving Spain until returning.

speve s tip looks good. And your recommendation of Mercia sounds good. Where do you stay in Mercia. How much a night. We we’re thinking of travelling after Xmas. What month?
When is the best time To book Portsmouth to St Marlow. ?
Can’t think of anything else to ask at the moment. But I’m sure there be more questions.
We have driven around France before and I’m sure I’ve been to Mercia but not driven.

It has always been that case though. When I moved to Hong Kong 5 years ago I took my Three phone with me but was told that it 'may' be cut off after 3 months if it wasn't used in the UK. It actually never happened.

Data caps are a more recent restriction and have only come about since Brexit.

That's not my experience, we were discussing this very issue on the forum well before Brexit happened.

Fair usage limits have always been there across Europe as well.

Someone mentioned GiffGaff. They’ve cut EU roaming down to a lousy 5Gb.

Try popitmobile.co.uk They have deals up to 100Gb they say with no limit on EU roaming.

Most Vodafone offer sim deals have no roaming allowance without additional charges.
I have a second sim 140gb £10 a month but roaming is £8 for 8 days or £15 for 15 days, with a fair usage of 25gb per month.
All their full price sim have the 25gb cap.

Interesting, our Vodafone sim has no fair usage cap and zero roaming charges regardless of zone. Costs nearly £40 a month mind.
On average we'll use 73gb over a 3 day weekend and have never paid more than the monthly cost, same for a week in France or Germany where if the weather is bad we'll easily hit 200gb over a week.
Been with them for over 5 years now and nothing has changed. Maybe it's different for new customers, dunno?

You must have a sim plan since before the change in fair use.

Funnily enough, I have today bought an Orange payg in Alicante.

€10 pm for 25 gb which is more than I need. First payment is €20 but it covers 2months. Other gb plans available.
I only needed my passport for their admin and I asked the guy to activate it on his phone and then insert it into my mifi which he was pleased to do.
Other main networks probably have similar... except Movistar who do not offer monthly payg. (Or so the ugly unhelpful chubby lady told me. For a moment I thought I was back in blighty!)
