Good day to you all,

What sim cards do people use for the internet in a motor home/caravan? How much data are we likely to use if we are away approx 1-2 weeks a month and sometimes travelling abroad? Can you purchase one that you can disable when not using and then reactivate when needed and what are the best networks?

Many thanks

Do Popit not restrict roaming? Would be great if they didnt.

I had a quick a quick look at their website and they appear to have a 25Gb limit like many others ? Nomad Unbound seems to give 100Gb and all 100 can be used abroad but its nearly £60 a month

'Roaming in the EU.
You can use up to 25GB while roaming package dependant. If you have 1GB you get 512GB, 3GB you get 768MB, 10GB you get 2.5GB, 30GB you get 7.5GB or 100GB you get 25GB in the EU. "
Used Popit last two visits to Europe 30 days 100gb for £25 and so long as it was activated here in the UK you could use all the data over there. They might have changed it for this year, not checked, going again in April. Looks like they’ve caught on as well then so won’t be using them. That said my wife has a £10 rolling EE unlimited contract now (linked broadband deal) and it will be as competitive to pay EE £25 monthly roaming charges for the two months we are away for her unlimited data.

If you look in the T&Cs you will see you can only use 50G of data when roaming even if your UK allowance is higher than this. After the limit is reached it gets expensive.

I’ve recently bought a new van which has a mifi system installed - we may not use this tho, as the missus has unlimited data and my contract has 100gb. Both EE we usually take up the roaming ads-on for £25 for the month. The only thing I my consider a pay as you go sim for the mifi , would be so the smart telly can use that whilst we are free to wander off with our phone(s) not chained to the van.

I’m with EE for broadband & because of that ive got unlimited mobile data for £16 and also a free monthly roaming pass which means I can use all my data in the EU. It worked well for us for 5 weeks in France & Spain before Christmas. I don’t need unlimited data at home, but it’s worth the small extra cost for no trouble whilst we are away. I also had an unlimited ID mobile sim in the MiFi for £15 as they had a special offer on where all your data was available in the EU. As that was a monthly sim I cancelled it when we got back, but would probably get another sim if the same offer is on in May when we got back again.
Edit; I see the ID offer seems to have finished now.

Thanks for the info. It makes reference to out of bundle add ons to which there are charges listed somewhere else. Will make sure we are properly covered. As you say charges are high if you exceed your allowance.

I’ve moved away from Popit as it is now restricted to 25gb roaming unless you take out their very expensive option.
Currently using Tesco sims that we purchased on black Friday.
Unlimited data and two year contract.
Two sims at £16 a month each. We alternate the sims to keep below the two months in four months roaming clause.
