Silverstone Motogp Start Time Change

Track assessment and decision now positioned for 3pm. Don’t hold your breath.

On a positive note, unlike the wind, the rain where we are seems to have abated...

Provisional start time now 4pm.

That rain window that was supposed to reach us at 1500?... has closed up. The radar looks like at least another hour of heavy rain.

Cindy has opened the wine now, hence the chances of our venturing back to the track are minimal even if there were to be some miraculous intervention from the weather gods. ;)

At least someone has taken a sensible decision.

Now showing 11 days to next racing ???????????

If rain has stopped by 4pm, all 3 races will take place starting at 4:30pm...

Well, obvious, a night race. Line cars up round track, lights on, GO.

My lad has set off for home .its a 3 hour ride said about 50% of bikes gone already .

Wind and rain expected to increase ...

Racing has been abandoned.

Campsite was half empty already. There was an additional sprint for the exit the moment the message went out.

I'm hitting the beers and heading home tomorrow.

The rain stopped here , so you should be clear in about 10 mins :)
Theres nothing out west to come thru so should be clear then .

Press conference had them all passing the buck to Silverstone for not doing a good tarmac job.

Was it the Tree fellers that do a bit of tarmac your drive sir ..

Apparently it was some of the manufacturers teams that vetoed racing tomorrow. Probably Honda as that means Marquez maintains his lead with one race less to ride.

From behind the fences, the surface looked OK. It was obviously bumpy in a few places, but there were no rivers running across the track or massive areas of pooling. It looked like it had reasonable texture too. Other than grooving the surface or having a greater cross-fall (which would have affected the racing line and grip in the dry), I don't know what else could be done.

Didn't F1 use to race the British GP this weekend? But people complained that it was frequently a wash-out, so it was moved?

Listening to one of the big wigs from the Malaysian GP the answer is a surface which is in effect porous and allows the water to drain through. He said they had three attempts tatresurfacing their track before they got it right and bearing in mind the the extreme rains that they have it must be good.

Porous surfaces have been tried in the UK. Turns out they are a really bad idea. One frost and it's gravel. Not an issue for Malaysia.

The manufacturers never decide. It's always the safety committee and the riders. That's the way it should be.

It couldn't go on tmrw as they need 300 temporary staff. Probably 150 marshalls who probably have plans tmrw. Can't race without them. And gate/security staff. And caterers etc.

The safety committee and riders had a meeting and there were two riders in favour of riding today, Jack Miller and Johan Zarco, the rest were against.
Herve Poncheral told Eurosport that some of the team principals objected to postponing it to monday. This was not a safety decision.

John and his mate doing the same, what a waste, he could have had the dog and I could have gone off somewhere else

Monday was never an option according to Silverstone radio.

I saw the interview as he was outside. Herve Poncheral said he was NOT in that meeting.

NEVER EVER will a team tell a rider to race. I raced for 10 years. The rider ALWAYS comes first.
