Agreed that whilst our last holiday was great then its getting close to selling time, Anno Domini etc).
Just had a chap knock again on the door offering a fair price.
He wont take it away until money is in our bank,, he said.
Wheres the pitfalls?
Whats peoples experience of doorstep buyer (from western isles, shall we say)

Bank transfer by him to you, or cash and you pay it in?
Price discussed today will probably halve by the time he comes to buy with all the " faults" he will now find that he "didn't see" earlier.
Only my opinion though , and I believe there is allegedly a lot of fake cash around at the moment.

Well, he has been back and inspected with a mate and allegedly will be back at an agreed time tomorrow to pay at the agreed price ,,,,hmmm
I wonder if after we've taken the trouble to empty it the price might change.
Next episode tomorrow late pm then...
Mike

Can't remember ;)
If you’re happy with the price offered and he puts money in your account before you release the van I don’t see a problem. You can always phone the bank and ask if there could be any problems? Make sure it’s cleared in your account before he takes the van 😉

Please take security measures in the meantime. Ok so I’m a catostrophist but nothing to loose if it can’t be started in the meantime. Hope it’s all above board and you get what you want.

If you do sell make sure you notify the dvla by filling in and sending of the transfer slip . Dont let the buyer do it otherwise it will still stay in your name if he commits an offence.

I assume you are a willing seller at the agreed price.
Bank transfer only. Go to your bank with or meet the buyer there. Pre arranged meeting.
Have a sale agreement letter with minimum of "sold as seen, date and mileage", V5C and keys.
Funds in your account, sign and handover.
My tuppence worth, but bank transfer confirmation is essential.
Also, this is an open forum. Maybe you have a relative or other objective friend to hold a hand.
Can be emotional.
Regards
Ps cancel insurance after handover.

If possible accept his bank transfer then, before he leaves with your m/h, transfer the money to another account. That way he cannot “recall” the funds to his own account if trying a scam.

Personally, I have heard about bank transfers that have been cancelled before cash cleared so I prefer cash or a cheque that it presented to the bank on Monday morning and cleared by Friday.

I exchange the V5 and cheque but do not release the keys/vehicle until the following Monday.
I also need the buyers address so that I can fill in the transfer documents ( this gives me time to check) 🤔

Times have changed, these days bank transfers cannot be recalled, with internet banking it's easy to check that the money is in your account. Also notify DVLA online, that way it's instant, so a speeding ticket on the way home won't come to you.

I don't do much of this cyber techie stuff but, wasn't there a scam highlighted on Rip off Britain last year, where we were advised to check that the money had gone into our account, but wait until it had been CLEARED because the scammers were encouraging the seller to check while they were there and immediately stop payment after leaving the seller.
Has that all been stopped now? 🤔

If you look on your own banking app, once you see it, it's safe. The scam is when they show you it's gone through on their app.

Exactly this. Its dead easy to transfer the ownership online before they leave after of course the money is in your account. I once made the mistake of selling a car twenty years ago to some bloke who just knocked on my door and he took the wrong slip of paper with him (deliberately I think). The car was then used in a crime and then abandoned. I had the Police coming to see me about it and then a charge for storage for the car which was badly damaged. All got cleared up of course but since then I have been a bit more savvy to the sale procedures.
