Giottiline T60
Exp
Since March 2013
I don’t know if you can hear it clearly on my video but the water pump is really noisy on our Giottiline T60. As we are under warranty does anyone have any ideas before we book it in to be looked at as the dealer is a 4 hour drive away in Antequera.

attaching a video might help, or even a short audio clip

I did attach a short video so I don’t know why you can’t see it.
You can't attach a video directly.

You need to save it to somewhere like YouTube, and then post a link to the video.

When we had our Bessacarr new, the pump made an awful racket (They are anything but quiet anyway) Dealer said it had been installed properly. I unscrewed it, inserted a cut down piece of camping bed roll and refitted it, (with slightly longer screws) and it made a bid difference. Try having someone run a tap while you push the pump into it's fixing with a glove or sponge. IF it makes a difference, it the board its fitted to amplifying the noise, or it's loose in its fixings.

you can upload short clips directly using the "Insert video" button (next to the quote button)

presumably a Shurflo pressure pump .. not a submersible.

yes they can be noisy if not fitted correctly

1. They should not be screwed down hard onto the floor compressing the rubber grommets .. if it is it will make a hell of a noise .. when fitted correctly the pump should have some movement.. if not, slacken off the fixing screws..

2. The pipework has to be secured so that it cannot rattle .. and check it's not laying against a wall panel which will amplify the noise

3. Lastly.. if it still sounds noisy you can build an acoustic hood or box and place it over it ..use plywood and line with noise absorbing material .. leave a few holes for ventilation

If you have rigid pipework Shurflo also supply a noice silencing kit, basically short pieces of flexible pipe with connectors ..

The shurflo pumps are not silent, especially if you are used to a submersible. There are a few things you can do to quiet them down a bit, but sounds pretty normal to me.

That’s a great help as we wondered why we couldn’t see a pump in the tank  . We’ll have a look tomorrow and see if we can find it .

It’s actually really loud but the video doesn’t record it well. We can’t flush the toilet at night as it’s so loud you’d never sleep through it  . Glynn will be a man on a mission tomorrow to locate it and check what you’ve suggested (y)

some times it is not the pump directly, but the pipework connected to it drumming on a hollow hard surface. The resonance works the same as a speaker amplifying the sound. Often simply touching the pipe and the sound vanishes. This is why a pump sounds loud some times but not others depending how the locker is packed

Hopefully we’ll locate the pump today and then try what Scotjimland said and your suggestions too. Definitely need to do something as the noise is crazy

Use a spray bottle to flush at night.

What a blooming’ good idea! I have a spray bottle of water already in the bathroom that I use to spray my curly hair in the mornings to save brushing my hair and looking like I’ve been electrocuted

Sounds a bit loud, but it’s better to be able to hear the pump because if you have a leaking joint anywhere in the van if you will hear the pump going, if you have no taps running you know you have a leak somewhere, my pump kept going on for a few seconds at night every 10 -15 minutes, made me realise there was a problem, found a joint leaking under the bathroom sink. If it had been silent it could have gone on for months and done major damage.

That’s to loud needs some rubbers to insulate ,I couldn’t live with it.

We’ve located the pump and all the noise does seem to be coming from the pump rather than any pipework. Glynn has loosened the screws but it made no difference to the noise level. Any other ideas on what might reduce the noise? .

take out the mounting screws and put one or two layers of camping/yoga roll mat under then refit longer screws. However that fiamma pump is probably knackered/fubar/snafu and will need replacing soon with that noise

I concur with TheBig1

pump sounds knackered

I replaced a noisy Fiamma pump in my PVC with a Shurflo Trail King .. much better pump ..

The camper was only 1 year old when we bought it in November and all parts are under warranty for 12 months so perhaps we should get them to replace it? We have a Giottiline dealer not far from here so we could take it in there first and get them to look first and then we’ll know if it’s worth contacting the dealership to get it sorted (y)

loosen the pump mounting screws and remove, and put a small piece ( 6” square) of carpet with the pile side down underneath. Run the pump, if it’s quieter insert the screws and tighten up just enough to keep it quiet when running and bobs your uncle 👍😁
