I knew it was a mistake posting this before new year. Once I have had my supply of cointreau and cider plus recovered I will get on the case.. In fact I will pass one of the venues on route home so may pop in to have a look. Ref the grey peas and bacon, I am sure something can be arranged as long as I don't have to eat the vile stuff.!!!

Are you allowed to bring your own firepower?

Most formal clay shooting grounds will hold the appropriate exemption certificate to enable non-certificate holders to shoot shotguns at artificial targets as set out in the attached link

Dodgy Link Removed

Most grounds will hold "taster sessions" for corporate events, stag or hen doo's etc. The price will include some basic tuition, the clays you shoot at, a 12 bore shotgun to use and cartridges to fire and insurance. Everyone should take a peaked cap such as baseball hat to protect your eyes from flying debris from broken clays. You should be provided with shotgun glasses and ear defenders to protect your eyes and hearing. There will be a security/safety briefing to show you how to safely handle a shotgun. No other special clothing is required but a jacket or thick jumper to given some padding for your shoulder to protect against the kick from the gun is sensible. If the gun fits you and you hold it properly/firmly you should not get any bruising either on your shoulder or cheek.

You can look for suitable clay shooting grounds on the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association website and then look up individual ground websites to see if they do what you want and for how much.

Clay shooting comes in various guises: Trap, Skeet and Sporting are the main types but there are various varieties within each category. Sporting is the most common and is to simulate the shooting of wild birds or animals by using clays.

Trap and Skeet are specialist competition disciplines shot in World Cups, Olympics and Commonwealth Games and probably best avoided for an event such as you are contemplating.

If anyone has any questions feel free to "fire" away!(y)

Its great fun!

To make it fair, people who have shot before can use clays, and beginners could use old satellite dishes that are to small to use in Spain now. Just a thought, haha

Hee hee, had it been there you'd have known it!

UPDATE TIME...
Appreciate any feedback, good or bad before I go any further.

DATE ; Provisional date weekend of 13-15th May 2015
LOCATION; A working farm, Easy access just off JN13 Stafford. Large field, flat on the top and will take quite a few vans.
Broken Link Removed
PRICE; Camping £8 per van per night (offered £5 but would not go for it). There is fresh water supply, a toilet block or sorts where cassettes can be emptied, no Elsan point so just need to make sure people clean when they empty !
No Electric hook up or showers. :(. If anyone does want to stay longer they can at same rate.
SHOOTING; Safety training, equipment use and 20 shots. £20 per person for anyone who wants to take part.
For anyone who wants to do more shooting that can be arranged at an additional charge. Near the time we can decide on either a saturday or sunday shoot. Or even both if people so wish, dependent on weather and wallets.!
http://www.shotgun.me.uk/index.htm

There is a wooden building that could be used if required for an evening get together or if weather is good a large "polytunnel" is in situ.

LOCAL AREA.
Penkridge with a nice Saturday market is nearby, bus or walk (1.5 mile). Few shops and village pubs.
Stafford is a bus ride away, bus stop is at the end of the Farms access road.

Took a few pics BUT it's been raining a lot so maybe wont do it any justice..
The farmer has some from summer so that may give a better impression when he sends them...

IMPORTANT...... AS THIS IS A WORKING FARM. SORRY.... NO DOGS ALLOWED..... They may not have been keen on the noise anyway..

Sorry Steve, but we couldn't commit as we hope to (still) be across the water then. It looks a great location, especially if the weather is in your favour. Good luck with the meet. (y)

Jock & Rita. :)

Unfortunately the provisional
date !for us clashes with another
trip which we've booked. but we will watch to see what happens
many thanks jan &mike.

same for me, sorry the dates don't work
regds N

Sorry Steve, no dogs allowed rules us out. We may drive over in the car to say hello, or I may cycle over.

Hey, just reading up on another thread I reckon this meet is discriminatory as I don't have a shotgun. :(
