Shall I, Shan't I? Third time lucky? Trip to Norway from Spain

We're now on the coast at a place called Gromitz. On the way we called into the biggest town to enquire about a fishing permit for Martin. Yes, it it possible to buy a tourist permit from the Ratzhouse (sp) which is situated in the busiest part of town.

Undaunted, 'cos it was his desire, we drove through narrow, and narrower streets and managed to park (without paying  'cos we're coin short) just a few minutes walk away.

Permit duly purchased we then drove to our present position for the afternoon and night. Another hiccough trying to pay here with a card in a machine.

Second card accepted and ticket issued. Result!!! Or not. Zero paid, zero minutes. It's stuck on the window and if it's checked we'll (well Martin) will query it and if we didn't get charged anything we'll try for another.

Anyway. We got out on the bikes on a route sheet issued by the tourist office. I must admit my research produces better routes, but ....

A few piccies of wind turbines, barley fields and a random stone sculpture.

The beach a few metres away from our parking, but unfortunately, hidden from our view by a grassy bank.

This evening, parking and biking and fishing research is on the cards ;)
Whatever you do, don’t show Martin the pic of PhilandMena holding that humongous fish he caught

We're now at "anglers paradise" ? ? in a free parking area at the end of the road at a tiny place called Presen on the island of Fehmarn, just before Puttgarden.

Crossing the bridge.

And when we arrived. We're now the only motorhome!

IMG_20190702_115742.jpg

There's a 160+km cycleway around the island. We did a bit of it before heading back. It's VERY windy so 20km was hard work.

There are some very nice wildflowers planted alongside cornfields. Cornfields which won't post as a photo for some reason. No matter.

We got back and had Serrano and olives and now just finished stir fry with duck.

Martin has a very full evening ahead of him. Fishing then Lionesses!!!

Loving the wild flowers Judith

Another attempt at a cornfield, just because I'm bloody-minded.

Nope, still won't have it, so a highly cropped version, maybe?

Yay ... Eventually but totally lost the effect of my original photo with the ears of corn in the foreground.

Try crouching down and take the shot across the top of the corn so there is just a little bit of sky
1/3 sky, 2/3 corn should be perfect

I'll try to remember that.

1/3 sky, 2/3 corn ...

(The last time I recommended that to Ros, I got a thick ear.)

Looking forwards to a possible meet up
..

And of course to see my newly bought, by Martin (or rather you) aquisition of a derailleur!

Thanks for collecting it, by the way.

Are you having second thoughts about going to Norway?

We don't know about that part. We're going to be weather watching and making a decision then.

Martin wants to go because of the fishing but he's also a bit jittery about the van!!!

Want to see Ros and Norman first if we can (and also collect my deraileur).

But also wondering about just posting on the MT!

(The advantage of doing a separate thread is that it's easier to refer back)

Decisions, decisions ...

Not sure exactly where you’re planning on going but the weather in middle and upper Norway looks pretty reasonable

Thanks.

If we go it'll be in the southern part again south of a line from Oslo and Bergen and maybe on all the little islands on the far west. (Lots of ferries to pay for but what the heck!) Possible meet up with Jan and Eli at Eli's (still being renovated new (old) house at Fusa). We're quite enjoying Germany at the moment, although we do keep finding ourselves in tourist locations!!!

Hagstrom Ros and Norman have a ferry on the 7th and want to do the west of Denmark before heading back down the east side so there's a possibility of us doing the west with them then saying goodbye, and us getting a ferry to Norway while they continue southwards.

We are keeping an open mind at the moment.

This morning we woke to rain.

We then left our overnight parking when the skies cleared and we drove to have a look at the Gruner Brink (a lake area bird reserve separated from the Baltic). The sun was shining but the wind was blowing.

We wandered into the sunbathing beach area where Martin had to inspect one of the beach shelters.

IMG_20190703_101145.jpg

From here we drove all around the island looking for a possible overnight spot but nothing took our fancy!

We ended up at a commercial Stellplatz just off the bridge and back on the mainland, from where we had a bike ride to check out possible fishing locations.

IMG_20190703_150318.jpg

Tonight's definite spot!

IMG_20190703_150216.jpg

We've had lunch/dinner. Bratwurst sausages with coleslaw, avocado and ... courgettes, drizzled with olive oil, lemon juice and lemon zest and topped with feta!!!

Martin doesn't like courgettes but he liked these!

The "hopeful' fisherman has just set off!!!

We're now at "Hogwarts" or rather Hohwacht, which is a relatively unspoilt fishing village.

The Stellplatz, again payable by machine that doesn't seem to like our money!, isn't in the most scenic place but it's hardstanding, which has been handy because we have had rain.

The first rain started just as we were suited and booted to go out for a walk. It did stop half way round and we arrived back all nice and dry.

We did see a fish and chip meal offered for €4 but we aren't eating that ... yet! and it was the wrong time to eat when we passed by.

Martin checking out the fishing prospects
...

IMG_20190704_145402.jpg

Which is where he may head to later ...

The fish and chips were here.
IMG_20190704_144815.jpg

And not here at this rather expensive hotel/restaurant we passed later.

IMG_20190704_145045.jpg

We walked as far as the next marina.
IMG_20190704_145222.jpg

Then turned back.

We could be forgiven for not knowing what country we are in!

Our rainy day today was less rainy than yesterdays non rainy day.

We had a stroll from Hohwacht this morning through another nature reserve.

We then moved 30km up coast to an area with a very long beach with a lot of sticky outy stone thingies which Martin thinks are going to make fishing very productive.

Now if you're bored with this fishy tale, just spare a thought for me, living it!!!!

It does give me a nice "me" hour or so in the evenings though :)

You can lose whole families in here! It IS the path, honest!

We've moved 30 minutes up the coast to an area with a looooong beach with some sticky outy stone thingies where Martin is sure he can stand and catch some fish.

He's going at stand on here for some hours, chucking a line into the water, hoping to catch a fish!!!

I think you'd have been better off paying the 4€ for guaranteed fish & chips ::bigsmile:.

I think you're right, except we're trying to be low carb. so would be a bit of a waste of money.

And I do get a bit of "me time" whilst he's trying to catch tomorrow's dinner.

Have derailleur, will travel.

On Sunday.

Needeye Seymour.

I'm so looking forward ...

... to seeing my new derailleur :h:

And you and Ros also, of course
