Hi there

We are new motorhomers booked on our third ever trip to Somerset this weekend, with our brand new, never used awning, which my sister will be sleeping in.

Forecast for Saturday is severe gales and torrential rain - eek!

Has anyone used an inflatable awning in this sort of weather? Any advice, other than cancelling and staying at home!

Cheers,
Jane

Nr Llandovery Wales, it's been raining persistently since late last night .. forecast is more of the same over the weekend..

Well one gust of wind pulled the tunnel section out of 1/3 of the figure 8.

That is our only issue with wind, we chose to use a figure of 8 fitting for ease, but it does leave it much looser than pulling the awning through the slot directly

Wait and see. I'm in a field in East Devon at the moment and all week the forecast has been saying 100% chance of heavy rain this morning. Guess what? It's not raining.

Latest forecast for tomorrow still suggests high winds but not so much in the way of rain.

Yes wait and see... This is supposed to be my storm this morning....

Blow up awnings stand the wind very well, we had heavy winds in Spain over the winter, and the blow ups faired better than pole versions(y)

Sounds logical, bend rather than break.

In Villasol the wind loosened all the pegs on our safari room. Ground needed much better pegs. But even with better pegs the noise would mean no sleep.

The wind is still gusting quite strongly but it's glorious sunshine.

Had a look at the figure 8 sections. I use the 4 in total.
2 are grey, 2 white. The white ones have a wider channel opening (about 2mm).
I've reattached it with grey at either end and the white ones in the middle. Hopefully it will stay there this time.

The van in the field opposite us had s kampa air pro awning up. It was quite impressive watching it collapse then spring back to shape.

He's taken it down now.

Ours is all good so far. Sleepless night ahead for me. (More red vino required)

Good luck! Ear plugs might help. Stop the wine leaking out of your ears. :)

My daughter and her friend are "sleeping" out there.

I'm sure they'll come knocking if it collapses

Well, we survived - we also had the awning come out of the rail but luckily whilst we were there.

The weirdest bit was waking up in the early hours of Sunday to complete silence - no wind, no rain - it was almost eerie!

Hope everyone else is in one piece - looking forward to a slightly dryer trip next time though.

Thanks again,

Jane

The weather has certainly been odd - high temperatures coming this week though only for the south and east I think.
