Chausson 728eb
We are looking to up-plate our 2017 Chausson 728eb on a fiat ducato chassis. Can anyone advise what was needed to be done to the vehicle to achieve this? Ideally I'm looking to get over the 4000kg mark but I'm anxious about what needs to be done. We are planning to use Van Weight Services who I know will advise perfectly, but in the meantime........

We have a 728eb and up-plated it it to 4150 kgs or thereabouts, the weight stamped on our manufactures plate. The manufacturers aluminium plate states the max designed gross vehicle weight. And that depends on the spec of your actual MoHo. We just sent a photo of that along with a letter of explanation to the DVLA. No dealer was required or involved. So no cost and the DVLA even sent a cheque back because it costs less to register it over 3500 kgs. The DVLA can be very useful in these matters. Best of luck! Cheers Tim.

Hi Lenny,
Can’t argue with you - all I can say is that VWE said the higher rated wheels were required to take my light chassis up to 2400kg rear axle load to achieve my overall capacity to 4250kg. The original wheels were rated 1000kg each. I had already updated my tyres to a higher loading!
I cannot comment much more on that - VWE would need to clarify their calculations.
Jim
Fiat wheels have a part number stamped on them, if you still have original wheels it would be worth looking and checking with Fiat even if only to help other Funsters.

They look the same as Carthago use on the current Compactline.
I hope so as when we get ours it's going to be hard enough to convince 'er indoors that it's essential to spend £9k for the air suspension, new wheels might brake the bank

S V Tech gave us 3 options based on the info we gave them.
Info and photo's of the Fiat weight plate under the bonnet, and converters info shown near the Fiat one, Tyre and wheel sizes etc.

Of the 3 legal options available for our 2018 Adria 7.5mtr chassis only one met our requirements in terms of the increase in weight carrying capacity on the rear axle.
This solution required Air assist on the rear axle as a replacement for the Fiat rubber cones fitted originally.
We chose 'VB' air assist ( supplied by SV Tech ) because of its reliability and I would highly recommend the optional comfort pack inflating/deflating/balancing system that includes a 12v air pump ( with air gauges and paddles to adjust the pressures independently, left and right, at the flick of a switch paddle ) instead of the standard pair of car tyre valves which are a pain to use and require the use of a mechanical hand/foot. pump or tyre inflator.
The comfort pack also allows adjustment / height of the rear of the MH for levelling etc and raising of the rear end when boarding ferries etc, even whilst on the move.

Sorry, I sold them but at the time I checked out with Fiat, took a photo and sent it to VWE. It was on that basis that VWE confirmed that the wheels were max of 1000kg/wheel on my light chassis.

That’s what I did and then the p***k wanted more than asked for.
Van weight Engineering have been excellent. They were recommended here to me and the response was swift, fullsome, very clear and useful. Answered my questions fully even googling some points of info I asked about. He does say in his terms that any changes after the documents have been produced will incur a fee, so make sure everything is correct first. I learned a lot of technical stuff from him. His initial response was much better than the email i got from SV tech and VWE were cheaper. I just need to sign my forms and send them off now.

It's wheel & tyre ratings that are important here. You need to ensure both have the required loading, not just one or the other. Those wheels above that are rated at 1250kg each in theory gives you a max of 5000kg GVW(2500kg per axle), but your axle may not and your tyres would need to be load rating 116 or higher.

We spoke with SV Tech and told them we were getting VB Air suspension which meant we were able to up-plate - also checked with Steve if we needed to upgrade our wheels and thankfully ours were ok .
Totally painless up-plate but not without cost as VB Air was £9,500.00 and SV Tech was £336. Well worth it as ride is now amazing and we have gone from 5000kg to 5500kg.

Hope that helps you.

We up-plated our Ducato last August. VWS was very helpful and competitive on price... I would certainly recommend using them. I think some might have issues with the costing as it depends if you are staying within the original weight-rating of the base vehicle, and if going higher, the type of technical upgrade that may be needed. We just did a paper upgrade as the Ducato was down plated when Adria converted into a MoHo. We didnt want to increase the train weight as I've no intention of towing. I looked at doing the paperwork myself and getting it signed-off at a Certified Assessment Centre but was very ambiguous even talking to DVLA and DVLC.

He didn’t for me, afaik he’s a cowboy. 😡
You’d be better using the more experienced company SV Tech, VWE actually recommended them.
VWE has my vote cannot fault them speedy efficient and good value. Raised my Pilote from 3500 to 4100 without any problems would definitely recommend.

Just remembered with the 180 engine & 9 speed box it has the uprated hubs and brakes & the wheels are the 130 pcd so brakes and wheels are the same as the maxi chassis so should be OK.

Congratulations. There is no space alongside the Fiat and Adria plates under the bonnet on ours, so I’ve stuck it inside the reveal on the driver’s side door - only visible when opened.

Did they get the MAM right ?
DVLA's normal cock up is the change the Revenue weight but leave the MAM at 3500kg.

Yes Lenny, only thing is that on the v5 it states that there is 3 seats but I have 4 ,it's on the original v5 as well thing is does it really matter or best to leave alone any ideas.

They are unbelievable, if you only ever travel with two I wouldn't worry too much but get it changed during a period you are not going abroad as they can take months to correct their own errors.
My last van they got the MAM wrong took 4 months to get them to correct it.

Currently looking to uprate my 2011 Ducato /Adria Coral which is on 15” rims. Does anyone know if maxi 16" wheels will be a straight fit? I’ve been told that the hubs are different.

Thanks
