Chausson 728eb
We are looking to up-plate our 2017 Chausson 728eb on a fiat ducato chassis. Can anyone advise what was needed to be done to the vehicle to achieve this? Ideally I'm looking to get over the 4000kg mark but I'm anxious about what needs to be done. We are planning to use Van Weight Services who I know will advise perfectly, but in the meantime........

He didn’t for me, afaik he’s a cowboy. 😡
You’d be better using the more experienced company SV Tech, VWE actually recommended them.

I just finished going up to 3980 with no work on my 7m van. (ducato). just ping a mail to VWS and he send out a sheet that you fill in and return with a few pictures of your tyres / wheels and rea axle.

mine took 4 week

Vanweightengineering gave great swift service for me.

And for me. Very comprehensive, fast and a very good price. Went from 3650kg to 4250kg on the Fiat light chassis with just the addition of rear air - Adria Compact 2022 auto.

Simply fill in their enquiry form with as much detail as required and email it to them for an initial appraisal.

That’s what I did and then the p***k wanted more than asked for.

Done mine, 3850 to 4090. All good and no issues here, and at a very good rate. Get a balance price from VWE, and SV tech. You can them make your own mind up how to proceed.
You will require some rear air bags, and probably a tyre upgrade for the extra loading.
The air bags can be as dynamic as you want from a fixed pressure to an infinite adjustable system, with a compressor, at a cost. Kits are available off Ebay if you're mechanically minded.
Have a look for youtubes and threads on here.
Mike.

What wheel & tyres do you have?
If 15 " wheels you will probably have change the tyres to get the rear axle over 2000kg. 16" wheels should be OK.
Also you will need to fit semi air or full air on the rear for the same reason.

Just fitted 16” wheels with AT tyres in order to proceed with the up-plate and to be honest, we needed new tyres and I got the complete package for a really good price!

VWE everytime, just going through the process, svtech actually suggested an upgrade that was illegal, my rims don't have sufficient load rating but still suggested an upgrade with all relevant info been given and no mention of new rims been required.
Dee from VWE picked up on that fact immediately and not only suggested suitable rims but sent links too suitable replacements including part No,s..

Those boots look very purposeful.
Are you happy with the general ride quality, and sound levels from them?

Had them on my XC90 and did not notice any differance to the original tyres fitted, re handling, noise or ride quality!!

Recently updated my 2020 Chausson 711 via VWE from 3500 to 4250kg

It involved change of original Fiat 16” alloy wheels which had max load of only 1000 kg per wheel, higher load tyres from 112 to 120 loading and rear air bags.
Delighted with VWE and would recommend them to others.

I used SVTech who were very good and it turned out to be a paper exercise for mine.
They wanted photos of the wheels, tyres and the suspension. Can’t comment on the other company as I’ve not used them.

I'm very pleased with them. Ride quality is definitely improved and they don't seem to be any noisier than the Michelins that were on the Motorhome when we bought it.....they've definitely got a lot more grip. The ground at our storage site is soft and previously I've had to use grip mats or waffle boards just to get it in the parking slot!!!

The wheel and tyre package came from Rogue Alloy in Reading, the team there were extremely helpful and were very understanding of the process of up-plating.

That doesn't sound right they fit the standard Fiat alloy on 2500kg axles only need to change the wheels if going up to 2700kg on the rear.

I can totally recommend VWE.
They were very thorough and up front with the process and costing.
They provided an engineer’s report stating I did not need any mechanical upgrades to take my van from 3650 to 3850kg. SVtech said I would need rear air suspension….which they supply and fit?. Go figure!

Hi Lenny,
Can’t argue with you - all I can say is that VWE said the higher rated wheels were required to take my light chassis up to 2400kg rear axle load to achieve my overall capacity to 4250kg. The original wheels were rated 1000kg each. I had already updated my tyres to a higher loading!
I cannot comment much more on that - VWE would need to clarify their calculations.

I did talk to the manufacture in my case Autotrail they sent the relevant certificate free of charge I then downloaded the necessary application form from the DVLA and sent all it in. A couple of things the road fund licence dropped in price and depending who your recovery company is in my case the AA they don’t cover over 3500kg fortunately I’m insured with Caravan Guard and recover and breakdown is included
