I've been looking at Heosafe door locks for a Ducato and a Heosafe lock for the hab door and a thought has just occured whe dont we disable the door locks and leave them permanantly locked and just use the hab door then there is only one door to secure? As the do with A Class although admittedly acces to the hab area is usually a bit less toght in an A Class, just a thought.

Going for a lie dowm now my brain hurts

eddievanbitz where do you put the steering wheel when detached?
Ware it as a neckless, bracelet or carry it like a handbag.
I have decent electronic security so I’ve no experience or need of a removable steering wheel, but, if I did, when I was at home, the wheel would be under the bed along with my shotgun and filleting knife.

By decent the have to get through my factory fitted deadlocks, the tackle my Growler Plus system, then they’d have to tackle the manufacturers immobiliser then my Shadow Non Starer immobiliser, then work out how to decode the hydraulic jacks and finally disable the automatic gearbox lock.

Thats of course after they’ve managed to open my coded gates which are ‘rather big’

Hey! Me too! Shadow, all of that including 4 Heavy duty locks & ground spikes on my gates.
Except for a Growler Plus.

Wouldn't bother if a thief wants to get in no amount of lock's will stop them xx

If you're ordering a new A Class, order one without any driver/passenger doors leaving just the Hab. door. (y)

That's what the peeps who ordered ours did, (or was it a money saving exercise by Burstner)

I had internal locks on cab doors but when I parked in a supermarket car park, someone had parked so close that I couldn't open the habitation door wide enough to get in, so I had to wait till the people came back to their car to get in with all our defrosted freezer food.

My security system is a very large dog bowl put outside when we park. We haven't got a dog.

A small thing, but check with your insurance company before you install anything. We assumed any extra security=good, so we installed door plates on our PVC and the insurance went up specifically because of it.

We do have some additional security fitted - alarm/tracker and a steering wheel lock and clutch claw when parked on our drive.
I have thought about adding deadlocks etc but then I think what is the point when our motorhome has plastic windows.
Surely the windows must be the weak point on any motorhome?

When we're in the van, we have our dog.

When we're not in the van, I'd prefer they took the whole thing. It can always be replaced.

If they break in to nick things, I'd prefer they made as little damage as possible. So I can be back on the road as quickly as possible.

But ... if I lived in my van full time, so losing the van would make me homeless, I'd be much more concerned.

Windows and skylights are weak points if you want to get in. But put yourself in a casual thief’s position…would you want to be inside a deadlocked van, when you were potentially discovered?
I’d much prefer any thief destroyed a plastic window to trigger the Growler alarm, than destroyed my drivers or barn door

It’s also impossible to get a bicycle out of a window or a skylight 😉

Think there are two issues. If it’s theft of the vehicle then no amount of security will deter them as they will come prepared to target it. A lot of value for a few minutes work. If it’s increased security to deter theft of items from the vehicle a few simple and cost effective measures making it more difficult, might encourage them to move on. We beefed up our security before a trip to Europe, window locks, Fiamma locks etc, but like others have said noticed most of the European vans didn’t bother.

All additional security adds to the deterrent. If they come equipped to crane it onto a flatbed then that is very hard to defeat, but a well installed immobiliser will defeat almost all.
There was a thread on here from a couple of years back where they dismantled most of the dashboard trying to get the vehicle started … and still failed.

Where I live a lot of the time (QMJ) is so far off the beaten track, and hidden away out of sight, that I don't bother locking my doors and windows...

...indeed I left my little Kangoo "run around" van here unlocked and with the keys in it, whilst I spent the winter months down south in the Algarve and its surrounding area...

Guess what...

...when I returned it was still here. (y)

They are relatively easy to fit, and do not take much time to fit.
We have a Burstner Nexxo on a Ducato cab, the screw fittings etc are already in the door, you just need to trim the plastic with a small blade Dremel or similar and the lock slides into the cut recess, and you use the existing screw fitting.
We were using straps from door to door until I fitted these, the management feels a lot happier with these fitted.

I totally agree that additional security will make it harder to steal. Most modern vehicles are fitted with some type of immobiliser. Thief’s now burgle the house to steal the keys or in the case of keyless vehicles somehow clone the security device. I have lots of security, immobiliser, alarm, steering lock, wheel lock, CCTV and generally there is a vehicle parked behind it. As I said for most Motorhome’s it’s high reward for little effort and if they get caught it’s only regarded as vehicle theft so carries minimum punishment.

Any point in all these extra locks when we have plastic windows held closed with plastic catches? Don't get me started on roof lights😀
Absolutely right. No point whatsoever except to make it look more difficult. Make up a dummy one and loop the alarm into the sound of a ferocious dog barking. You could always ask the mother-in-law to stand guard - another old Les Dawson ‘joke’.

You said earlier that your alarm Lead's are 'dimmable' , I wish you had emphasised that more to your customers, I hate seeing a blue flashing LED vehicle sitting right in front of me at a show and the owner has gone to the beer tent!😭
Perhaps your son could put in bigger letters in the book of instructions? 🤔

Believe it or not most of our customers want them brighter and more noticeable

Its a bit like asking Avtex to ensure their customers don’t play Avtex music on their Sound Bars too loud

Anyway I’m retired 😁

That's why I asked you to tell your son.🙂
Most I have spoken to, say they didn't know they could be dimmed and we're supplied when you were still working! Have a good retirement. 😄

You’ll be okay next to us then - ours are red (front and back!). ;)

I'm okay parking NEXT to anyone, it's when at shows or rallies, they park you head on, nose to tail and at night they are not needed. I'm glad I've got a Whoose-Bang and can get my revenge in the early hours of the morning when the flashing light keeps me awake! 😄
but enough of this thread drift. 🙂

I’ll remember that - although I have been known to ‘forget’ to turn off the outside high level LED awning light at night, so parking next to us isn’t a guarantee of a good night’s sleep either!

He's the boss now so I tell him nothing, otherwise it could come back and bite me on the arse "Dad how would you like to do a few days at the NEC show for us!

The answer by the way
is I'd rather put pins in my eyes and drink camel piss!
Most I have spoken to, say they didn't know they could be dimmed and we're supplied when you were still working!
Strange yet everyone is demonstrated, it's in the handbook, and, there is a button on the dashboard with a blue LED on it that you'd think that they would "wonder about  )

I suspect that they'd rather act dumb than be rude to a fellow funster at a show!

One of my customers had a neighbour that moaned about his LED despite it not really being visible unless the neighbour "engineered" a scenario

The customer told him that if he'd legally indemnify him against any loss he'd leave it off, other than that it was the his (the neighbour's) problem to deal with not his, the same as looking at ugly women! (His words) if it upsets you, don't look!

Have a good retirement. 😄

If I had the choice, I would not look BUT....... there was a thread on here recently that a number of Funsters posted on about how the light on their Control Panel & Fridge, disturbed their sleep. This is what I feel when, despite me closing all my blinds etc, there is still this strobe of brilliant light creeping in around the edges every few seconds.
Now this I could understand if the M/H was sitting in storage or parked by the side of the road but when it is securely parked in a show ground and the owner is inside. It's on a par with a Whoosh-banger slamming his door. I have added a handle inside mine so that I CAN close mine quietly BUT, if the other person can be inconsiderate after I've asked them to dim it........... :giggle:

Had a shiny new garage door fitted, thought that will stop the thieves getting in.

Watched a video on YouTube of scrotes defeating it in seconds. :-(

eddievanbitz is right, if they are prepared to cause damage, they will get in. I can get in most vans in seconds simply by pulling the windows and breaking the catches and possibly window. Ditto for the door with a large screwdriver.

I watch the lockpicking videos as well. I use a large wheel clamp with quality padlock. One video last week showed how to defeat that by hitting the thing. I didn’t believe it, so out I went and did the same. Opened with no key in less than a few seconds. 😩

I almost inconvenience myself so much applying the thing every time I move it I do wonder if it’s worth it.

Ho hum. 👍

It's a bit of a conundrum. I suppose a lot depends on what the thief is after. Is it the van, contents, or are they nicking it to be broken down for parts? Whichever it is slowing them down seems to be the key. In the case of an alarm, frightening the sh*t out of them so they scarper. We don't really leave much of value in our van so it would be more the damage and nicking the van that concerns me. We have a steering wheel lock, wheel clamp and a Patriot motorcycle lock to fix the drivers seat in the reverse position.

That's what I intend to fit when I get mine, plus thinking of this
