Collecting my MoHo soon, I've read loads about theft so looking at various options, ideally not too expensive. I know trackers are a good idea but they are expensive and only work to find your vehicle after the fact [burnt out / smashed etc] so lokking at options to prevent theft in the first place. Anyone able / willing to share their set-up / secrets - looking at whhel clamps / steering wheel clamp / extra door locks etc. Thanks all

Vanbitz Growler & Non-Starter, Disclock steering wheel lock and ProPlates for visual deterrent and Neos SmartCam CCTV (x2) to keep an eye on it.

Rule of thumb, spend 5-10% of value on security.

Why pay 60 grand plus on a MH then scrimp on security.

Having said that, if the scum-sucking scroats want to get in then they will. All you can do is make the other vans a more attractive proposition than yours.

Vodafone do a tracker for £20 upfront and £2 a month. Geofence capability. Uses GPS Na mobile cell locating. Messages your phone when it moves / crashes geofence etc. Self installed little device. Hid mine under a seat. Ran a 12V supply to it so it’s always charging but has batteries for when needed. Great for peace of mind. Other than that I just have a Sigma alarm immobiliser that was fitted when I bought the van. Been testing it this weekend and found the Standard cab sensors capable of detecting me when in the rear lounge as they detect any changes in environment.
I stumbled across the Vodafone thing the other day, looks like a good simple device, can you let us know how easy it is to set the geo fencing? Is it simple enough to set it every time you leave your van unoccupied ?

Get a copy of MMM for this month as there is an excellent article on security for motorhomes.

To join the Patriot club do you need to drill a hole to take it. Also, I believe their are 2 lengths, if so which is the preferred one to use or does it not matter. As always, appreciate the collective and varied insights . . .

You will need to drill ideally a 14.5mm hole or you could drill a 14mm hole and take a rat tailed file to open it up slightly.
You need the shorter version of the Pariot lock and a 6mm thick washer to take up the slack in the length of the pin.

As some have stated above, have a chat to VanBitz, very helpful, may not be the cheapest but highly recommended and get 10% discount with MotorhomeFun membership!
Remember to quote the 10% to Vanbitz prior to agreeing the work.
Besides a Dislock and door to door cable, I also use a wrecking bar across the habitation door, this fits between the handle and rests on a small bracket on one side and bottom of the handle on the other. Prevents door from being opened from outside even if the lock is forced.

I will add my tuppence-worth on this issue as I have some direct experience, I have had a disk-lock on my motorhomes for years now and once I fitted the lock on a trip in England before remembering that I had left the key for the disk-lock back home in Northern Ireland. I went to a local locksmith in Darlington and his response to my dilemma was a comfort and a disappointment. This guy said to me "if it was any other device I would open it for you but I have tried and failed to open disk-locks a number of ties and broken many tools in the process but never managed it" So I went back to the motorhome phoned a friend and got them to post my key over safe in the knowledge that it is almost certain every time I leave my motorhome that I will come back and find it exactly where I left it. All the best with motorhoming, it's a great way to holiday

I am an ardent believer in security (be it home or vehicle) to a point
Yes secure it as best you can but as @ coop says if they want it they WILL get it and will you really want it back once they have finished with it..

I have a 'global trackers' tracker at £4 per month, also full steering wheel lock, wheel clamp and if I need extra, pull the starter relay
Make it as hard as possible with lots of visual deterrent
I have a steering wheel DiskLok, a seat lock. Immobilizer 2 x Alarms.(1 manufacturer and 1 x 3rd party) Additional cab flip door locks. Milenco independant Window and rooflight alarms all round and additional Milenco sliding door locks on Hab door and both garage doors. A wheel clamp on the rear wheel, Oh and a global trackers' tracker. Hopefully they will go and steal something easier - Paranoid or what! 😁

Another vote for Vanbitz, they offer a free night when you have something fitted.
We also have a Disklok and a Bulldog clamp as visual deterrent.
