Hi there, we have just fitted a flyscreen at our habitation entrance. In the past the door slammed shut when there is a breeze / wind. I would like to prevent this to happen and the bin attached to the door breaking the flyscreen. The is a "clip" to hold the door but it off experience I know this is not suffice.
Any ideas to keep the door securely open?

I use a piece of cord with a small loop on one end to loop through the door handle and a large loop to drop over the wing mirror.

A one meter loop of paracord!
It has the advantage of being windproof, yet easy to slip on/off
And can be left hanging on the wing mirror when pitched up.
(Also used as tea towel dryer)

Notice the double figure of eight knots:
It's critical to get the length exactly correct,
loose enough to slip over the handle, yet tight enough so the door does not bang in the wind,
but once tied, it will last for ever.

(For Hymer MLT series owners, you need just over 2m of paracord)

Ours opened the other way (hinge to the rear) so I used a bungee with a large hook on one end which hooked over the alloy wheels.

I just don’t get the love affair with all those Heath Robinson approaches.

Anything that involves a bungee cord is just a fat lip in the waiting. 🤷‍♂️

There are perfectly good engineered solutions already posted earlier in the thread.👍

I use a bit of bungee with a sail slide which fits in the thermal cover channel behind the driver side window. If it's warm enough to have the door open I won't be using the thermal cover.

I probably shouldn’t be motorhome-ing. I didn’t understand anything that came after “bungee …”

If the wind gets behind that door, that bungee will over stretch and snap easily probably when you least expect it. You need a rigid retainer such as webbing or mechanical fixing so it cannot move or stretch. Seller says the suction cups are rated at 14lbs but tested to 40lbs in test conditions and probably not a snap load from a sudden gust of wind, that is not much with wind force on the size of a door.

Thanks Dave, that was my thought but virtually have no space to get my hand in to put in a pin or a drill to make sure the holes line up 😉. Sounds like bungy strap might be the best solution
Bungees are dangerous especially in a strong wind. If they break they can take your eye out and can easily over stretch in a strong gust. Better to use rope or webbing or a mechanical stay.

Agreed, hazardous little beggers!

You need a bigger bungee then. Ideal is a length of cord with a shorter length of bungee just to maintain a bit of tension.
I mainly use bungee cup / bungee.
If it’s really windy I do stand my 40 litter water barrel just in front and touching door
this work well when on a site for couple days , I also anchor my dog to it
