You still hold a valid licence - depending upon small print insurers have no need to know if Section 88 is applicable

I don’t remember being asked for my driving licence number by my insurance co.
Just when I passed my test & how many years I’ve been driving. I would assume they can easily check your details with dvla.

Ripe insurance definitely ask as I've just changed to Ripe from Comfort and saved myself £251 .

I guess some insurance companies find it easier to exclude S.88 cover because it has complex eligibility rules. For example it doesn’t cover you if the category you want to drive was not on your expiring licence.

If your motorhome is less than 3.5t you can apply for a temporary 1 year licence without a c1 to cover driving your motorhome or car.
You may have to call them to explain.
You are aware that whilst a section 88 is ok for driving in the UK it is not acceptable abroad.
