i have a 2004 Bessacar 4 berth van its fitted with forward facing seats in front, but side facing in rear . Can anyone tell me what the law is as regards seat belts in the rear ?
Yours Frank.

Thankyou i now have managed to get back on to the forum , however i dont see any relevent answers to the question i posed . But thanks anyway . Bunch
Hi Bunch the answer is there, unfortunately it is mixed up with the bickering. It is legal to use side facing seats for traveling if the MOHO was registered before 2007, however the V5 will list the number of passengers the vehicle can carry, this can affect your insurance. So although it is legal it is not advisable.
We are a friendly bunch here, so please give us another try.

I think Cheshire cats comments were helpfull as i understood his comment to mean a newbie may want to know the legal side and not fully understand the safety side

It was an obtuse, sarcastic remark to a genuine question. Facts is still open for that kind of response.

I hope we haven't scared BUNCH away, this thread looks very like posts on other forums, not very FUN at all

For about a year we used sideways lapbelt kids seats, strapped to lapbelts, either end of a sofa. I'll be honest and say we didn't think too much about it This was almost 30 years ago. I wouldn't do it now. Seen so many pictures of motorhome accidents and it's clear that in the back, the chances of survival can be raised zero to slim, if people are in properly fitted travel seats.

People should just report posts they are not happy with; then I can deal with it and we don't get the tit for tat in the thread.

Hi Bunch and welcome👍
You are legally allowed to carry people on side facing seats since your van is 2004 👍Any children should be in any forward facing seats before side seats and the Mrs (win, win 😁) The law was changed so that any van converted after September 2007 could not use side facing seats and had to have any forward facing seats fitted with seatbelts. If you had rear facing seats belts were not required.

Hi and welcome.

I believe the travelling passenger capacity is stated on the V5 and each designated seat is marked with a sticker and a seat belt.
That has been an issue with UK vans for some time. More berths than travelling seats.
There are a few members who are ex police so may have a more precise answer for you, but I believe that if there is not a belted seat it's not a legally permitted travel seat... However, I am happy to be proved incorrect.
The v5 is a good place to start.
Can it be wrong?

Yes it can i have 5 belted seats in our van and the v5 states 4.
But, It is unusual for a 3 berth van to have 5 belted seats.
My main point wa as you say a good place to start.

Its also not against the law to run across the north circular road on foot, in rush hour, on a dark, wet, December night wearing black jeans and a black hoody.....just in case you wanted to do that with your friends/ family as well

Glad to help
Firstly, BUNCH , my apologies.
Sarcastic streak got the better of me....no excuses

Hope the forum doesn't think I'm too much of a tw@t
