Search For Sites Sold

A great fan of SFS, my go to app across the UK and Europe. A simple and very useful idea that’s become a valuable resource for the motorhoming community and I’m glad you persisted when others may have mocked it. Hope you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour and hope it remains good value for money under new ownership. 👍

It's not me who sold it, I was just reporting it😀

Exactly, it's up to the site to ask for proof of membership same as any club.
Yes you’re absolutely right. I would point out that businesses that join PS are looking for additional income to make ends meet; let’s face it the motorhome industry is one big juicy apple waiting to be picked.

I wasn’t aware that it was ever mocked. Why would anyone do that?

Ian
Picked up on an earlier comment. Apparently left motorhome fun as a result? I did say ‘may have mocked’ as I can’t verify the fact. Most new ventures have their doubters.

Just seen this on FB, hope it doesn't mean price rises but I'm guessing it will.

First of all, we hope you’ve all had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed your New Year celebrations, wherever you may be.

We (Ian and Jill Curtis) have a special message to kick off 2025.

Our motorhome journey began back in 2011, and from the moment we hit the road, we were hooked. On our first trip to France, we quickly realised there had to be a better way to find great stopovers than relying on the guidebooks of the time. And that’s how searchforsites came to life in 2013 — with one simple goal: to make it easier for fellow travellers to find the best stopovers across the UK and Europe.
What started as a little side project has grown into something far beyond what we ever imagined. Now, over 380,000 of you are part of the searchforsites community — some we’ve met on our travels and now consider as friends. We are so thankful for each and every one of you who’ve joined us, shared your experiences, and helped make the platform what it is today.

As some of you might already know, I (Ian) had a health scare last December, which really made us stop and reflect. Facing our own mortality reminded us of the importance of family, adventure, and, frankly, not getting bogged down in the day-to-day running of a growing business.

So, in 2024, when we were approached by Harvest Hosts, we made the decision to pass the baton and sell searchforsites. We made this decision after much thought, and we truly believe they are the perfect fit to look after searchforsites and take it to the next level. Rest assured, we have been working closely with the new team to ensure a smooth transition. And, we're also thrilled to introduce Elena White as the new face of searchforsites.

Elena is a passionate camper van owner from the southeast of England who’s travelled extensively across Europe. We’re confident she’ll bring the same enthusiasm and dedication to the community that we’ve always strived to maintain. We hope you’ll all give her the warm welcome and support that you’ve given us over the years.

And just to reassure you – we are not disappearing! we’ll still be around, travelling and sharing our favourite stopovers on searchforsites and social media, just as we always have but as Ian or Jill and not as searchforsites.

It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of this community, and we look forward to continuing our adventures with you. Thank you all so much for your ongoing support. We’re genuinely grateful for each and every one of you.

Happy travels,
Ian & Jill Curtis
All the best for your retirement.
I’ve just looked at Harvest hosts, An American company they charge between £84 and £152 to join, Wow, I won’t be part of them.

I use S4S as my number one engine both in the U.K. and abroad. I have found it incredibly good and worth every penny of the small fee charged.
Enjoy your extra free time now you can.
Phil

Wow. I hope nothing changes too much. I really like SFS, and we have used it extensively abroad. I love the lists feature, because I can pre-plan possible sites near our destination, and store them in easily findable groups.

I was a Britstop member for 6 or 7 years until taken over by Harvest Host when prices went up. Have also used S4S for a number of years paid subscription, and find it great although only used in the UK. I find the variety of locations, overnight stops, daytime parking, LPG sources, very good value plus all the great reviews. I hope it won't change with new owners.

take a very well-deserved back seat and enjoy a more relaxed future
along with the army of search for sites family
Thank you for all you have done for us motorhomers.
warmest regards

I uae S4S all the time, home and abroad. I find it a great source of information. I do hope it continues as it is.

Think I might have missed quite a bit over the years, having read many of the comments about S4S, there are many that I don’t recognise or actually, understand. Admittedly I use the site mainly but not exclusively in Europe, I wild camp in the UK and use P4N and S4S as well as my wits to find somewhere to park up. In Europe I find S4S to be excellent for finding free Aires , I have never yet read a review that appears to have been written by a Brit expecting a campsite!. Most of the Moho related sites were originally started by motorhomers to share the knowledge gained over time. They then became successful and too big for the individual who started them and were sold on, we can only hope that the new owners of these sites respect the integrity and spirit of the original site.
I’m pretty sure other individuals will start new sites in the future and the whole cycle will start again

We use all above apps, only if we can't find something close, or just for reviews, the main app we use for Europe is called Caramaps, I find this to be the best for us, it shows all places you can stop with a motorhome, i.e. Wild camp, Aire, campsites, Car Parks, Tourist attractions and leisure, because its used by users from all over Europe and UK, they have a lot of reviews.

We were with Britstops until the price hike. Signed up to s4s. Now that's gone the same way. 😭

No the price is still the same and web version is still free?
Harvey Hosts have more or less indicated a price rise on the Facebook page... their words "we are not looking to increase the price dramatically etc."

We use S4S ( the paid app) for nearly all of our stopovers both in the UK and France. The reviews we looked at were generally very helpful, particularly where some stopovers are in less secure areas. We use Aires, or CL’s as a rule. Hope it continues to serve its users well in the future.

Has any S4S subscriber had any direct communication from S4S which mentions this (fairly significant) change of ownership?

Not everyone would be monitoring Face Ache.

I'm a subscriber, not heard anything from them, I follow them on Facebook, that is where the info is coming from (at the moment).

Didn’t like what Harvest Hosts did to britstops, cost increase, Americanisation of web site etc. use s4 s a lot in this country to find sites. Obviously reviews are crucial. We always leave a review. I always feel slightly guilty just using the free version, but I think if the new people make it only subscription it will fall into disuse.
Why feel guilty using the free website? Have you not seen all the advertisements on the web pages? They’re getting paid for them!
