Screwdriver break-in on my Fiat Ducato Motorhome

Reposted the relevant pictures the first picture is outside habitation door with it unlocked,
Second is outside locked and third is the position of the lock shut from the inside but with the door open for clarity,

But the lock on the video you posted was not lockable internally.

Two

You cant strap a cab door on an a class

I was traveling from Spain to uk so its not un reasonable to stay on motorway net work for one night and it was piege
I have had three different A-class motorhomes, all of which could be strapped closed.

But the lock on the video you posted was not lockable internally.
It is, the silver handle on the inside of the door jam rotates the slide outside over the door,
It has to be pulled towards you then it will rotate ether to lock or unlock,

I can see that, but read my post "But the lock on the video you posted was not lockable internally." which was the lock you were promoting.

As your original reply was with reference to my post I'll also forgive you.:giggle:
I'm fully aware of the product I have fitted them to my last two vans, very good quality and well engineered.

Which ones?
You certainly couldn't on the 3 a class motorhomes ive had

ivorantony I found this video on fitting the version of the lock with the ability for it to be operated from in the MH.
It's in French, but the commentary is not needed to understand the process of fitting it.
Unfortunately, you will have to click on the "Watch on Youtube" as the video poster has not set it to be viewed outside of Youtube.

I can't justify all this time effort and expense.
The only item's of value in our van is my wrist watch and our phones Both always go out with us and both are beside us in bed.
Although I would be interested to know how many break-in into motorhomes day and night there are a year
Some 40 years ago on a hot night and on a site a hand came through the window feeling around obviously for valuables and probably in the knowledge that people keep these items by them when sleeping.
Shouting and trying to break his arm sorted it but l still stuff my Watch down the side of the mattress.

40 year's ago!? :Eeek:
No trouble since?
Breaking into vans is not very common then and just where I put my watch.:drinks:

If a thief decides to have a go, they won't worry about collateral. They'll smash whatever gets in the way.
You need to make it look like it's not worth the bother.
Adding overt deterrents might suggest that there's something of value within, although it might work if there are other targets around that look easier prey.
Put two dog bowls next to the door, big ones , one with water , one with dog biscuits……….., good deterrents …..

Fingers crossed now! But no and l spend upwards of 150 days away and probably 5% on a site. I have witnessed others and once chased two scrotes in Cambrills for two miles recruiting some Spanish workmen on the chase, the back and knees couldn’t cope now though.

A tip I saw on a truck forum that I'm sure everybody knows is to loop the seatbelts through the internal door handles before clipping them in

We spend most of our time in our Moho which means most of our worldly possessions are in it and we’d like to keep it that way so if the signs, flashing lights, sirens etc persuade the scrotes to pick on someone else we‘re happy to spend our hard earned on a Strikeback Growler 👍
Audible alarms are good if you are not far from your van and perfect when you are at home. Totally useless in a remote Spanish car park when no one would take notice anyway.

Sating that so are extra lock as they'll just rive the door off and do even more damage.

We leave a sign saying nothing valuable left in here. Then we hope they understand english

Had a break in the other night while sleeping in my MH. Burstner ixio A class

Screw driver in cab door lock 30 minutes after I went to bed

Growler Alarm eventually went off when door was opened enough but nicked my phone

Now have the lovely job of replacing lock and at the same time what can be done to increase the difficulty of this happening again

So some advice please of the following

How hard is it to fit the new lock taking into account I don't have van doors so more door internal stuff to strip down

Can you get the locks and the change the fins to code lock to current key

What would you add to make it better while on strip down

Do you know anyone who has and can do this work

Back to the two scrotes I did challenge them and they did come over and give me my phone back by leaving it on the pavement

Cheers
Graham
Sorry to hear that.

Can't somebody design door lock plugs which, when removed, set off an alarm and can be switched on and off remotely? Seems a simple solution to me.

This is an a class you cant tie doors together you only have one door
Hi. We could run a strap round the front door to the steering wheel on our A Class.
We used orange straps around the door handles of our c class. Our thinking was, make it stand out and they might move on.
