Scotland -snog, marry avoid?

Haven't stated at Clactoll but driven passed a few times when we've had a holidays near Stoer lighthouse at Culkein. We always said we would stay one day but NC 500 has put us off, glad we explored the area before it became popular. I saw an advert yesterday for someone to look after Stoer and Cape Wrath lighthouses anyone interested.

Stay in The Borders or D&G, no bin strike here yet and it is beautiful and quiet as most folk keep going north!!!!

There is also a Funsters stop over here at Puddleduck Towers, just off the A697, for any Funster who needs it.
Yet! Ours starts the 6th September in D&G:(

Yes where's the advert

You could always come up to Shetland friendly and generous people, ignore Jimmy Perez 😉 campsites are cheap and not rammed, in fact we are on Fetlar and the only occupants of the campsite.

The A697 runs from Newcastle to Edinburgh, does Puddleduck Towers have Biffa bins for my 20 bags of rubbish ?

On a serious note we are running up that way next month, just wondering where to stop

Wispa and I and SHMBO left Edinburgh last Friday after a week at Mortonhall site for easy access to the city and all that the Fringe has to offer, the site was absolutely rammed, and units & tents were too close this year for comfort
The rubbish in the city was appalling but didn’t affect the site in any way
We’re now down in the borders at Newcastleton on a site that couldn’t be more different from Mortonhall

I spent a few days in Northumberland and Berwickshire recently. I met a Scotsman in a cafe in Berwick (a very interesting guy - he was taking public transport to walk over every bridge on the Tweed) who told me, apropos of nothing, that the NC500 was "the worst thing that had ever happened to Scotland". I met a Scots couple in a big moho a couple of days later (hubby was a retired HGV driver), and mentioned this to them, and they basically agreed.

So, on the basis of my poll of 2, I would say avoid it. Except in February, possibly.

There is a lot more to see in Scotland than the North Coast 500. Try Fife - gorgeous.

I agree it definitely was. I used to go up north every year at least 3 times. Now it's way to busy and there's lots of hassle because there's too much traffic. Lots of places in the world being ruined by over promotion

Just had a week touring a bit of the 500 Dornoch to JOG to Tongue and back to the Black Isle. No issues places we stayed wernt busy, schools are back so a lot quieter. If your going on any part of the 500 avoid school holidays and you'll be fine.

We will visit Black Isle one day to research maternal ancestors from Ferintosh, McKenzie clan, grandfather was a Kenneth McKenzie.

I found early April and early October to be the best for the North of Scotland...I started at glencoe then work my way up west ...follow road to the Isles at Fort William Ferry from Mallaig to skye back over bridge and hug the coast all the way north ...
