Scotland, not my idea of a holiday destination.

Just passed through your neck of the woods yesterday driving back from Liverpool and was just saying to the wife that we will have to do a week around Stranraer/Isle of whithorn/ gatehouse of fleet etc
Lovely area. We visited Logans fish pool yesterday and just before it there is a wild camping place with a loo over looking a gorgeous beach. A few motorhomes parked up but still very quiet.

I have never been to Scotland even though I have a cousin there. The idea of traveling 600 miles and it's colder 🤔 sorry I can't do it. My dad used to love Scotland, but that was years ago before the roads became so bad🙁
Which roads are you talking about?, the great thing about Travelling up to and around Scotland is that the further north you travel, the quieter and better the roads are. Every time we travel up to Scotland drivers manners improve, Indicators get used, even by BMW drivers, Audi drivers put their mobiles down and slow down to enjoy the fantastic scenery.
Get up there and enjoy the scenery, the welcome and the food 👏👏👏

No, no, no, what are you doing man? Do not under any circumstances encourage any more people to the delights of Scotland. Good god, they’ll be visiting next. Then what? Yeah, telling their friends, family, neighbours and who knows who else. Leave them down South and keep the cold, wet miserable North 🤭🥃🏍 for us in the know😂😂😂.

As a resident of the Highlands I completely agree, stay away. The influx of motorhomes, especially rentals driven by people who cannot drive motorhomes, has resulted in campervan/motorhome ( and caravan) being seen as a byword for nuisance. As any local on the NC500 route who gets stuck behind a convoy of swift rentals on a daily basis....

The effect on those motorhomers who live here is that now we feel we cant use our beloved free camping spots out of respect to the local population. Roll on reatriction free European travel

I think you have nailed the main issue, that is it isn’t all Motorhomes that are causing problems, it’s mainly hire vehicles, driven by people that normally would be on a scooter in Benidorm or Ibiza, who have not been schooled by the hire company on how and where you dump stuff or drive on single track roads and they tend not to show any thought or consideration for others. The sooner they can get their Jet2.com or Tui flights off the better for every one 😉

Sorry to hear of your sad loss 🤪 It may be cooler than the south of England but we've still got palm trees on the west coast as the Gulf Stream keeps it mild in the winter. 600 miles is nothing, I drove that distance every night in my lorry for 12 years.
Every journey starts with a single step. Go on take that step, you won't regret it(y)

We moved to Scotland last year - south west coast and have been amazed at how nice the weather has been for over a year now, so far it has been warmer and drier than Cheshire. The other thing that surprises us is how localised the weather can be, literally can be raining just on the other side of the road and sunny on ours oh and how changeable it can be. - love it:h:

It's been a great summer on the west coast. Best for years. Sadly it's not always like that.

'If you don't like the Scottish weather, wait 15 minutes and see if the next lot suits you; if not, you have only to wait 15 minutes for the next lot, more frequent than the buses ...'

Totally agree in part, the Nc500 was designed by one mad man who made it fashionable to drive like an idiot and ignore everyone and everything, the same thing has happened in Cornwall this year,,,it’s the go to place,, I personally hope everyone buggers off to the Caribbean and the Costa”s so I can return to Scotland without the fear of being burned at the nearest stake,,,

Beautiful country but for me, let down by anti-English sentiment openly espoused by a few - and I am sure that it is only a very few.
When it comes to mountains, architecture, drink, lakes, food, waterfalls, rivers and friendly people we go to Switzerland, Austria and Italy.

All the Scots I know who live in England, are marvellous people.

I’ve been to Scotland many times and know a lot of Scots, I’ve always find them very freindly and warm,, ( which is amazing if anyone knows the history) but I am half Irish,, ( must be my Celtic blood) :giggle:

That sounds like someone that is very up for a referendum, oh I wish you would happen it might help clarify the bitter and toxic relationship, from a minority, against those further south that appreciate and want to visit this part of the UK. We really love everything about the Scottish Highlands including the people (most).

We haven’t come across any anti English sentiments yet and found all the locals very friendly and welcoming. They usually chat to us at first as tourists after hearing our accents and when we explain we live here they are full of questions why etc. It’s only a small village/area so that is usually followed up with tails of our house and previous occupants and neighbours :giggle:

our shopping trips take twice as long as in Cheshire and we love the place of life here - plus it is beautiful!

+1 from another English immigrant who moved to Scotland almost 22 years ago. Bearing in mind that I have worked as a Housing Officer in locations such as the Gorbals and Anderston, making home visits to deal with Rent Arrears, Anti Social Behaviour and other awkward situations, I expected to get some 'anti English sentiment'. Not a bit. Not once.

People who bang on about anti English sentiment are invariably based in England; and often think it's just a wee bit of banter to describe a certain senior political figure as Wee Jimmy Krankie, or refer to us as 'Jocks' etc.
