Scotland, not my idea of a holiday destination.

I think Scotland is beautiful and they nearly speak English.
Disagree on that, worked offshore for 28 years with a lot of jocks, if you get a broad aberdonian you won’t understand a word he says.
There was one at one place I worked who would call the control room, I couldn’t understand him so would call him back and say “ could you repeat that slowly and in English “ 😂😂😂😂he would go crazy at that.

Typical!:swear2:

Bl**dy foreigners expect the locals to use their foreign language instead of them trying to blend into the community by learning the local lingo! :whistle2: ;):giggle::giggle::giggle:

Scotland is beautiful, have been going for 40 + years, May and October, no bother with midges then. How can you not like the singing sands in May, had 3 lovely weeks.

Yip, just south of Stonehaven and was in a tee-shirt and shorts the last time I was there!

Six years in Aberdeen and I think I kept my ski jacket on the whole time :giggle:. Bloody east wind!

Hey, I had no problems understanding most of them, just a few who were really broad, almost as bad as broad speaking geordies.😄😄😄

Scotland is beautiful but the weather can be a tad unreliable and the bloody midges : and I live up here
Far rather be in the Alps with views like this View attachment 512805
I think it's just different air, it feels like a proper holiday when its warm, dry and there's a bar terrace with a spectacular view

I have to agree with that, my first six months working in Aberdeen and living out past Ellon I could have been living in Russia, they use so many different words and phrases its like learning a new language. Strangely though I could understand every swear word. After a few years my friends back in Wales reckoned they could hardly understand anything I was saying !

About thirty years ago we hired a Broom 30 at Fort Augustus and headed down the locks onto Lockness and through to Inverness making a couple of stops including Urquhart castle then back through the Caledonian canal Loch Oich and Loch Lochy stopping at Fort William before heading back to Fort Augustus.
Never saw a midge and following a wee dram am sure I saw Nessie and the whole atmosphere of the holiday with the scenery and the fishing was beautiful.
Have also toured in mhome in recent years , a beautiful country.

Fit a feel muckle gype.

Try Alberta or BC the Alps dont seem that fantastic after :)

The skiing is pretty good there but it can get a bit chilly in January and the snow lays deeper than a Grave ;)

Ok, I have a fever and may be a little delirious but bare with me.

I've seen various people mention Scotland as an alternative destination to Europe this year due to the covid situation and I always think 'why bother?'.
If you only ever holiday in the UK then fair enough you might be impressed but if you have ever toured Europe its a little bit mediocre.
If you live down south it takes longer to drive there on over-crowded roads than it does to get to France, and if you live up north then the lake district is closer.
Yes it has mountains but nothing compared to the Alps. It has lochs but again a bit underwhelming once you have been to southern Germany or the Italian lakes.
Castles? yes but again not quite as great as the German ones or the French Chateaux. Thats without taking the unpredictable, mostly GREY weather into account and the bloody (literally once they have had their fill) midgies. I made the mistake of camping in a tent near Perth once, that lasted one night).

Anyway that's my thoughts, I'm sure not everyone will agree.

PS I lived and worked in northern scotland for six years including Skye for a short while so I do have some knowledge.
Oh I do hope you are massively successful in your anti Scotland campaign reduce visitors and keep that dreadful place for us !

We visited Scotland for a month last October. Absolutely loved it, but we are presently on an Aire overlooking Le Lac De Sainte-Croix in Provence. It's relatively quiet, the weather is glorious (okay - so it rained this morning, but it was very warm rain), swimming and paddleboarding in shorts - no wet suits required, the French are welcoming us with open arms. Been here a week, and in just over 1k miles seen 1 British vehicle. It's absolutely great. Only thing we booked in advance was the Chunnel, just rock up at our chosen Aire. Oh, and average cost per night so far £4 (Tunnel was £103 + around £150 on fuel thus far + £150 on Covid tests.)

No contest!

Have to, reluctantly, agree with the comments about 'thick/broad' dialect, have to take my sister with me to translate for the first day when I go back to where I was born :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We’ve just last week returned from two weeks around Scotland and the Hebrides. Loved it, no crowds actually very few people anywhere we went. Very little traffic, loads of wildlife. Beautiful scenery everywhere we went.
Unfortunately we are going the other way in August, South. To say I’m not looking forward to that trip is an understatement. It’s a family holiday so our presence is required otherwise there’s no way I would be going. Dorset for five nights really doesn’t appeal to me. Too crowded, too much traffic, I don’t think there’s a mountain in the whole county. Some of us are having a day sea kayaking which sounds fun but other than that I’m more looking forward to heading back North at the end of it. Perhaps staying at a couple of pub stops on the way back up.
So whilst I do understand the OP not particularly liking Scotland I’m pretty much the opposite as I like the lack of people and traffic and buildings.
Luckily we all like different things, otherwise we’d all be parked at the same place.
One man and his field.........

Two things:

If it makes you happy, do it. If it doesn't, then don't.

Personally, I love Scotland. I'm away somewhere every week in the camper and I can't get enough of the place. Yes, there's a bit of questionable weather up here, but some correct clothing sorts that out. The midge may be a pest, but that's what separates the men from the boys. Us tough Scotsmen wear kits with no underwear on and laugh at the midge whilst enjoying the best views and hospitality in the country.

Haste ye back!! (If you want to of course).

I worked with a Blackpool Custody Sergeant that spoke Icelandic to a drunken Glaswegian! It had the desired effect! They had a conversation that no one understood but next morning the Glaswegian thanked him for his care!

here is My Take. I love Scotland and get along very well with the Scottish people.

We tend to stay with a Friend on Islay or take a summer visit. Ski once or twice a year In the Winter.

But I do find the UK quite boring, as I am not much of an Anglophile.

*I find the UK Club sites boring and regimented
*The Big Family sites tend to fill up with ferrel families
*The facilities in the UK don't really accommodate for Motorhomes.
*We don't have the Aires or Stellplatz that many parts of Europe have.
*We don't have the infrastructure (mainly lack of a decent, flowing motorway system)
*Peoples attitudes towards motorhomes are not good in the UK.

I Drove from Santander to Javea. Javea to Alicante three times, Albir and Valencia. Javea to Santander and got caught in one small traffic jam (that we managed to avoid by leaving the motorway). All with great ease. Thats probably the best part of 2,000 km. Getting to Portsmouth on the way out was a chore from Manchester. 1 four hour Journey took six. The Traffic going we thought was bad. Coming back took just as long. I think we spent more Time in roadworks than out.

The Same was when we drove from Rotterdam last year. Germany, Switzerland through to Italy in August traffic. Barely a jam in either direction.

I hate the traffic here in The UK. I am in it daily for work. Though I can usually avoid it. Either by time management or alternative routing.

But, once you have swan in Lake Anncey, Visited St. Tropez and gone here after skiing in Austria. There is not much the UK can offer in comparison.

Don’t class all of it by southern standards. Yorkshire to Northumberland two weeks ago, no traffic no holdups, Northumberland to glencoe, no traffic no holdups. After that going North and West very little traffic at all.
