Scotland in September ?

We have just arrived in Mull, after a stopover at Loch Lomond, so far weather great, midge's well fingers crossed. Mind you just typed the last bit and sun has disappeared behind clouds, still warm though.

Few days here then onwards to Skye and then maybe further North if the weather holds.

So far impressed with the journey, biggest surprise Tebay services and Loch Lomond sunset.

Enjoy, you still have the best to come Mull is great, Skye even better and north west Scotland is my favourite, and on your way home Tebay southbound is even better than northbound (y)

We just stayed at Fidden Farm, Mull for 3 days, in a field on our own right next to the beach, there were seals basking within 50 yds on the rocks. Not sure it gets better :D:) (sorry but do not know how to delete smilies).

Have now moved on to Skye, we are at CC&C glad to be parked up after a long drive but it's supposed to be picturesque but apart from the facilities and organisation not that impressed.

So any suggestions for a site/stop on Skye, preferably top half?

Have you got as afar as Portree already? The C + CC site there is nice, the best scenery for me is already behind you if you are there, the drive through the Cullins is the best bit. We have only had a few nights on Skye, always en route to the Western isles

Are you going there next or further up the mainland?

How are the midges, the reports look bad for the glens, but not so bad out on the coast

nilfg Glad you found Fidden Farm one of our favourite sites this summer. On Skye I think you chose the most expensive site C&CC and in a not impressive place. For scenery Sligachon Hotel site was good but the midges were hungry in July, Kinloch campsite near Dunvegan was useful for visiting the Castle.

Mull the midges were fine Skye so far seems worse, we are past Portree near Edinbane on the road A850 to Dunvegan.

Plan on 2/3 nights in Skye and then were the weather is best, maybe Cairngorns.

We camped in the field before the farm buildings, everyone else like us initially went to the field past the farm, not crowded, but not empty either.

We are thinking about kinloch, sliachon seemed a bit exposed, also there is something at Glenbrittle. The other option is to go wild, but this does not seem as prevaent on Skye as i was on the Mainland or Mull.

The distillery is worth a visit, I'm not a Whisky drinker but enjoyed the day out.

We didn't get to Glenbrittle in July but heading over to Skye in October with son and 2 grandchildren and plan is to go to Glenbrittle. Sligachan is a bit exposed as the German couple we chatted to said "you are in Scotland 4 seasons in one day". We had fantastic weather one day and pouring rain the second!
We really enjoyed Mull but I think seeing Sea Eagles, Golden Eagle and an Otter made the holiday and Fidden Farm!

Sligachan Hotel is a convenient option, food decent, dog friendly (if appropriate) not overly expensive. Exposed but with that come the view

Then go north, try Applecross, 2 ways in one brave other longer!!

Great location really nice pub, site well placed, not much there, great views back over to Skye, nice drive in if you are confident.

Then carry on round towards Gairloch, nice site at Poolewe, if you like gardens go to National Trust gardens at Inverewe

The further north you go the quieter you will find it (y)

We have moved to Kinloch, nice spot right in front of the loch, more relaxed than the CC&C at Skye and much more convenient. Dunvegan castle and gardens tomorrw then we move.

Thursday is the vote so TV or pub? Skye or Mainland, we'll decide later I suppose. Right now sun is shinning so 'avin a beer

Excellent car park at Dunvegan Castle.
We had some fantastic sunsets at Kinloch but the midges were very hungry!!

Last night in Scotland before heading home tomorrow.

After Skye, Kinloch, moved to Applecross, great location, ok site, then Glencoe very good finally ending with 2 nights at Cashel, Loch Lomomd again very good.

Will definitely be coming back to Scotland, loved Mull, not so sure about Skye, probably just needs a bit more research.
