Scotland coastal route

Hi we all know of the nc500 has anyone done the entire coastal route. Looks like probably about 1200 to 1500?. Time is not a issue probably gonna take a couple of months bumbling round it

I know the coast round Scotland is more like 5 or 6 thousand miles, I know you wouldn’t exactly be hugging the coastline but I do think you’ve underestimated at 1200/1500

Yeah I've started off in Dumfries and Galloway and worked my way past Stranraer and not in a rush so I reckon I will keep going north been fabulous weather this last week

We do have the SW 350 in D&G

Yeah I won't hug the coast line as some of the roads look only suitable for small van conversions I reckon so I probably have underestimated the distance see how I get on not in a rush see how it pans out

If you like books then the Wigtown book festival starts on 27/9 - 6/10, small village with a few book shops but world renowned.

Yeah been there a few times in the past nice little town I think there's also a nature reserve there?. With a bird watching area

Much less popular is going up the east coast. We've done various east coast routes over the years.

A couple of years ago I did all of the east coast from Dundee to Inverness.

In too many of the nice (small) places where you might want to stop, parking was a 🆎-y nightmare . . . height restrictions everywhere 🤬

I thought I had read about a lot of community arrangements around that area, are they maybe pushing motorhome a to them ?

We are doing that same coast next year and have bookmarked lots of options we have read about mostly on FB

The Moray Firth and east coast have some great places - somewhat underrated because of the focus on the NC500. Fife has some great stopovers on the coast - Elie being the best known.
Good luck and enjoy!

Yes, we did it anti-clockwise, starting from home in West Sussex and were away about 3 to 4 weeks. Had a PVC so quite good on the single track roads but a shorter wheelbase would have coped better at times - dead ends and hairpins come to mind!
This was our first ever motor home adventure (after giving up sailing) and we really enjoyed it, rebooking some stops and winging it elsewhere. Go for it, the longer you have, the more chance for exploring off the NC500 route (which is quite well signed).

We done the same about 3 year ago but spent 3 months just moving about started off in Arran for a week then across to Campbeltown and over to Machrihanish then just followed the coast line all the way round and back down to Eyemouth crossed through the boarders and Dumfries and Galloway back up to Ayrshire just a fantastic trip and so much to see.
Have a great trip
