Schengen confusion

I'm finding this puzzling; Croatia is in the EU but not yet in Schengen, like Ireland, it also has manned borders, like Ireland. Ireland is still in the common travel area with us, so bearing in mind the lack of a border between North and South how could they join it anyway? So does an Irish passport give people the schengen rights?
Yes the same way a British one used to.

The whole Ireland thing completely screws with logic it fits neither way but they have to just put up with it I think .

All this does make me chuckle, there is a 90/180 day rule at some point and probably not to far away the rule will start being enforced it’s part of the freedoms that were voted for, can’t understand the issue. If people want the 90/180 day rulings to be different start a campaign petition Parliament and ask for the rules to be changed.

There is no 90/180 rule for EU citizens and their spouses, which is what this thread is relating to!

Ah my wife has an Irish passport and I do not so there are limitations

Schengen is a ‘red herring’ regarding this. You don’t need Schengen rights if you are not seen by the EU as a third country national. An EU citizen (passport holder) has the same rights as pre Brexit under Directive 2004-38-EU, so Schengen is irrelevant.

Schengen is not entirely irrelevant even for an EU passport holder because that person is allowed to travel to non-EU Schengen States e.g. Norway.

You’re of course 100% correct. To clarify, I meant in the context of the this topic/thread it is irrelevant!
