Hi all. If I fit a satellite dish to the van will I also need a Sky receiver? Basically would just like to improve the chance of getting something to watch as the conventional aerial has often let us down. Tia.

there lies the problem the 4g/5g signal in some rural parts is pant's for reliable streaming without buffering .
I fitted a 5g external avtex wifi antennae thinking it would work everywhere without interuption and found out its not 100% reliable by any means .
Another reason I'll stick with my 85cm autoskew as it works faultlessly and when streaming isn't reliable I have the dish as an alternative .
Likewise we will continue with our Oyster system, never failed to get a signal yet. We do have Mifi installed with external aerial and booster, for general internet usage and streaming via firestick. When there is a strong signal works OK, but more often than not the signal is is too weak for reliable streaming. Mostly UK based these days.

Personally I think the www.motorhomewifi.co.uk kits are good value even though they look costly you get everything you need to get a system up and running and compared to satellite very cheap😊 and useable in all weathers👍

If you need to watch a decent amount of telly in the UK and abroad then you'll need to cover all bases. Freeview aerial for normally telly in the UK, MIFI with decent data for streaming services in the UK although mobile coverage on many sites seems to be a bit poor. Satellite for watching UK telly in France and most of Germany, Belgium etc.., it also gives UK coverage where a freeview aerial can't get a signal. Mifi to receive UK channels abroad is getting harder due to fair usage type conditions although UK SIMS with a decent amount of data are available for a little while. You can buy a local country SIM but then have to subscribe to a VPN and hope to fool the telly provider. SkyGo works the same as a UK telly provider abroad so it's either a UK SIM with plenty of data or local SIM with a VPN. it's a beepin minefield out there..

Thanks for this. But wouldn’t I need an internet connection/Wi-Fi?
If you're not going to be out most months, try Smarty as you can pause the plan. It's a carrier of 3 Mobile
You can also move your contract higher or lower each time to suit what data amount you need

For the first year we've not used our TV at all. There's not much on that I want to see. She records her Corrie at home for when we return.

We've used our 12" tablet mostly, getting wifi from the phones. Lots of stuff on youtube for anyone and everyone. Movies on Prime. Footy on Sky care of my daughters subscription.
What's ot to like.

When I bought my van it had Oyster satellite tv and internet already installed. It had no end of expensive problems, so I scrapped it and use a three router and firestick. If the router gets no signal I use the unlimited data on my phone. I can get all the channels I get at home
