Hi Earlier this year I ask about getting a Satellite Dish for use both UK and France/Spain but the overwhelming feedback was to opt for Wi-Fi. I have looked at a few options and am looking for further feedback the ones I've viewed are Avtex AMR985, Maxview Roam and Poynting various models.

Any Recommendations Thanks

Who you are with for the data Sim? Contract or monthly Rolling?
Superdrugmobile Unlimited £20/month no contract. Seems to good to be true but for past 2yrs it's seen us around Europe with no cap or roaming charges and good enough UK coverage with the 3 network. Binned the landline and just bought a WiFi repeater so it now gets used throughout the house from the moho's Huawei router

At what monthly cost?
As we're frequent tourers in north \ west Scotland we've got 4 sims in our two mobiles to try and maximise the possibility of a mobile signal and even then we sometimes fail or, regularly, at best 3g hence the reason we've got a Snipe satellite set-up. Snipe probably paid for itself in <12 months of use vs data packages particularly if we need four of them. Best solution for us.

I live in France and have orange 100 g which costs me 84e a month which covers me for all my roaming and home phone calls.bu cuts out when 1/2way through Croatia.i use for radio when travelling in motorhome and watch about 2 hrs tv a day.not had anyplace with no reception and stay mostly off grid.I know its expensive but what isn't, never hardly use my sat aerial. I also have a WiFi aerial which I use if I can borrow a password from a nrby bar or whatever.

But O2 have fair use and aloud more then 2 months away from UK

That would be a bit restrictive for their business customers if it applied to business users too. 🤔

Happy Christmas. May I ask which provider you are getting the 100GB?
Thanks and the same to you 👍. We are with BT for home broadband and each pay £20 for 50gb and as a bonus with our deal it's doubled to 100gb with roam like home and no restrictions.

Advice please, how do you change the fire stick to 720?
Go into settings , then across to display and sound, then down to visual
This will help

So you have between the two of you 200GB for roaming? Wowww
I don’t think I will get it if joining the BT as new customer.

We have both. Belt and braces.
Speak to satellite superstore about the best domes and dishes for EU. Ours works well down to The Dordogne.

What size dish are you using, just wondering if our 85cm dish will pick up UK TV, when we're in Calpe (just 20 minutes north of Benidorm)

Firesticks will be expensive in France & Spain (unless you're on Superdrugmobile) but you won't get much satellite in Spain unless you get a card and box to work around. If my sat wasn't already fitted when we bought the van I'd just get a freestanding dish setup
Just purchased my Superdrug SIM ready for our trip to Spain in January. I plan to use the SIM in my Huawei mifi, however Superdrug support have told me it will not work and they do not advise using the SIM to tether. Left me a bit confused, so I think that I will find out what works or not when I get there.

Our Superdrugmobile SIM worked in our Huawei mifi no problems in France & Spain throughout November (about 200Gb roaming). I wonder if they have now changed their t&c's for new customers?

we’ve got an Oyster satellite fitted to the roof, used it *once* to check it works. We use a Superdrug mobile sim to stream or download content.. currently in the sunshine in Portugal :)

The Costa Blanca North is a bit of an anomaly as far as Satellite reception go’s
For some unknown reason there is Hotspot in that area and if weather is fine you will be able to pull in some BBC and ITV regions plus other mainstream channels .
I’ve used both an Oyster 85cm
and latterly my Maxview Target 85cm with autoskew in that area with good results as far north as Olivia.
Once you head south past Villajoyosa the Astra Spot beam that carries the mainstream channels starts to fades out you will however still pull in the Pan European beam all over Spain which carries many english speaking channels however most are encrypted on the SKY tv platform
So you should be ok in Calpe if conditions are right

A firestick uses wifi to access the internet to run various Apps (eg BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, SkyGo, etc). It, effectively, turns a standard TV into a Smart TV. If you already have a smart TV, you shouldn’t need a Firestick.

Wifi access to the internet can be via your home wifi (if at home) or via the use of a data SIM installed in a suitable device.

A suitable device can be either your phone or a MiFi device. Both of these ‘convert’ the 3/4/5G data into a wifi connection to the internet. The advantage of a mifi device is that, on some devices, you can connect an external aerial that has much greater sensitivity than your phone (ie, can pick up a signal where your phone might not).

Thus, a Spanish data SIM can be inserted into your MiFi (or phone) to provide wifi through which internet access can be obtained.

You must use your Superdrug sim in the UK before setting off, preferably in the mifi.
Write down and keep safe the apn needed to access the internet when roaming. (This is different to uk apn or it was for me) You will need to enter this into the mifi when on foreign soil.
This time when leaving the boat I had a little trouble connecting and had to keep switching between the apns until the mifi was beaten into submission, no trouble since.

We've never been to NW Scotland so can't compare but I can honestly say we've never been anywhere and not received a signal.
When i use 3 in both phone & Huawei, neither would work in vast swathes of suffolk,Norfolk, Mid to north devon. Anywhere I usually stopped or even where the daughter lived in North devon , nothing not even able to make phone calls. 3 coverage map even shows you won't get anything. Spanish mobile never a problem as always roaming
Lots of UK channels available using an 85cm automatic dish in Spain if you subscribe to SKY
But you can only do that if you are a uK resident & bring your own box
i can never believe how important tv is to so many people ,we go away in the van to be out we can stay at home and sit in front of the gogglebox
Nor me .When I bought the last coach built first thing my mate said was "where's the tv. Where's the oven?" Me ,I stop, I walk the dog,I go to bed.
Are your friends in Malaga using SKY or just reliant on Freesat ?
The pan European beam from astra covers virtually all of Spain , Portugal and carry’s most of SKYs subscription channels.
I had no problem down at Nerja receiving Eurosport and other channels with my roof mounted 85

Where I live here in Murcia I have a 1,2m dish on the house. sky news is the only uk channel it is possible to get last time I looked. No subscription channels are legally available.

Yes but you can still bring your SKY receiver and viewing card from home
As many do
How would SKY know ? They won’t
I’ve been doing it for years without issue .
