Satelite receiver for Spain?

Well all I can say is that you must have experienced an unusual atmospheric event as the Astra 2 UK spot beam for an 85cm dish doesn't include Spain. We always lost signal just after Bordeaux. This is the latest Sat footprint.

We were able to get astra2 all along Spanish coast using a Sky + box and 85cm Oyster V sat dish with auto skew however we have now had to upgrade to SKY Q and don’t think we will be able to do the same now so will rely on Sky go app and data making dish pretty much redundant down there🤔 will take the old sky + box next time to see if we can still get the free sat channels however I’m not hopeful as without an active card I don’t think the box will initialise correctly😢

Yes, that's right we had that set up before Astra moved the UK beam footprint north. Also had an Icecrypt box which worked throughout Spain. We changed motorhomes last October and from an Oyster 5 85 cm auto skew on the old van we put a simple MiFi unit on the roof with a SKY sim and an Amazon Fire Stick onto our Avtex TV. Can also use Sky Go on our tablets. Works very well in France so should do us OK in Spain (if we get there).

What Mifi antenna have you used?

We used the 5G ready version from Motorhome WiFi company. It's the second one we've had and works well.
A small amount of condensation on the metal ring inside the cupboard where it's installed but otherwise no problem.
Its an Huawei router that holds to the magnetic mount.
Plenty of installers around the UK, not difficult for a competent DIYer.

Get mobile WiFi and a VPN, then get a unlimited sim for £20 a month (no not one that get's capped in EU) and a firestick if you like.

With our 60cm Globesat dish we were okay to the Bordeaux area, but with the 85cm Oyster, we got a signal as far as Teruel, back in Jan 2020. Absolutely zilch any further though. Not been back since.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Just bought a Gtmedia V7 s2x as a backup for my icecrypt unit.
Astra and Intelsat needed adding to list manually, satellite position details on web
Intelsat scan did not find any channels, had to add transponder number to list.
This was easy to do, when on installation menu select Intelsat and then click "Sat" button on remote.
This brings up transponder list, click add button and then enter 11495 - V - 44100 in the required boxes, save and rescan
All available channels found, no need to enter BISS Key as unit did this automatically.
NB - You need autoskew, or access to manually adjust lnb skew on your dish, to get signal as it is different to Astra

The reciever does not come with the IR repeater you get with the Icecrypt unit, mine is mounted in a cupboard so bought an IR repeater from auction site. This takes power from the usb socket and works very well.

Tx for that. I ordered the V8X version and have struggled a bit to follow instructions. Your post spurred me onto success. Thank you.(y)

TomCz So the GT media V7 s2x is an alternative to the icecrypt box is it?

Speve Yes, I believe so, my Icecrypt reciever IR repeater socket has failed and this led me to look for a replacement in case it would finally fail.
Saw the Gtmedia receiver advertised and took a chance, instructions are rather poor, Astra and Intelsat 907 are not part of the standard satellite list, no IR repeater.
Set it up in my house and then tested it on the MH, Astra fine, Intelsat no programmes found, then discovered that the satback transponder settings were missing from the list, added this to list, rescanned and all programmes found without having to enter the BISS Key or change the firmware as I did on the Icecrypt.
Seems to be a suitable replacement at a reasonable price

Thanks for that mate I have just ordered one with 1gb recorder for £32 so though I’d give it a go thanks for the transponder number I take it that was Intelsat 907.😊

Yes Intelsat 907, SWMBO would like to know where you got your unit from mine was dearer without the 1gb recorder

Would a fire stick work on a Spanish data sim if necessary with a vpn?

It would work with most TVs as it does not have a sim it uses your phones WiFi😊 when plugged in via hdmi👍

Why does a receiver decoder that picks up an Intel sat 901/ 907 in Spain get you.
I'm not pulling your anatomy.
I'm a genuine dodo when it comes tech.
I get BBC1/2/4 ITV CH4 CH5 BBC NEWS. Also in Spain/Portugal but my Oyster 85 can sometimes take some time searching.

We also have mifi unit and works very well recommend it to you

Hi thanks for that do you know if there are any restrictions on data used when we use it abroad

At the moment it's not capped.
I believe that it simply lock's onto the nearest strongest provider whoever that may be.

(y)(y) thanks for that
