Does anyone know which is the best sat nav to buy for a motorhome. Thanks.

It is good, and got us out of the pooh a week or so ago, but the American accent, and the distances given in feet ! :frowny: apart from that it's a very informative running commentary.
The first time I fired it up in the van my wife wondered what I was opening. :giggle:

It sounds as if she's saying " Welcome to Copulate!"

I've been trying out the Road Lords App having read about on this very forum. It allows you to enter the dimensions of your vehicle and seems to take into account width restictions. It also has a handy GPS speedo and shows the appropriate maximum speed for your vehicle rather than the ones for cars. So far so good.

I’ve had the Garmin 770 LTM-D for four years now and although like all sat nav s it does have a wobbly occasionally it’s better than any other I have had.
you just have to be sensible and if you feel it’s wrong go a different way.😊

I've had the Aguri 720 since August 2018 and it's done us well with not many problems. Big problem today though, possibly because I have forgotten how to do things, not having used it for ages. Phoned Aguri and they said send it back and they will sort it - after nearly 3 years I think that's good service! Hope they do it quickly as first expedition of the year starts on Monday!

I acquired a 520 recently, mainly for the ability to programme each specific vehicle, but having used Garmins since dickety dot I'm not finding it exactly intuitive :frowny:, however I'll persevere.

Google maps navigation is years ahead.
IMO 🏆🙂
Sorry, but having experimented with Google Maps on my smart phone, I wouldn't trust them in anything larger than a panel van. :(

I think a problem with electronic navigation devices is the way the destination is input. A lot of postcodes in rural areas are in the middle of fields or at least a few hundred metres from the desired location; so it's a bit of a blunt instrument. I tend to search for a destination using its postcode on Google Earth, determine its geo-coordinates and then input those into the sat nav.
Ditto. I used to use the MS Autoroute maps for the same purpose.

If you zoom into where you want to be on Google maps, right click , then choose "What's here", up come the decimal coordinates, to enter into my favoured Truck Sat Nav, which is a 9" Android Chinese unit using iGo software and HERE mapping. The 7" and 9" Xgody Chinese units are just as good, and get excellent reviews from the Trucking fraternity.
All allow dimension, number of axles, trailer, and weight input, which really does make the difference of going round the ring road, instead of through the busy town centre. If I need to access the town centre, then I input those coordinates or a post code as a waypoint.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Aguri staff are very helpful and will talk you through anything you are finding difficult.

I have a Garmin 390lm motorcycle satnav, recently updated the maps, when I drive through Caernarfon it tries to take me onto the new bypass.
Scheduled to open early 2022!
