Hi planning on crossing to Santander in May. Looking for site recommendations within an hours drive. Probably stop 2/3 nights.

Not sure what your destination is but I can recommend www.campingdeharo.com
a bit more than hour away from Santander probably nearer two but a lovely interesting town in the
rioja region

there's the obvious Elephant place which is 30mins away from the port but it's not a site just a stopover next to a lake, its next to the park where you can see the elephants and cable cars etc etc.

We always stay at the free aire at Cabarceno (elephant park). Lovely place and the animal park is a must see! Unfortunately the services were removed a few years ago, but, there are services a few miles away at Lierganes. That is another lovely free aire, in a lovely town.

Another recommendation for Cabarceno, about 25 mins. from port. Plenty of space and good view of lake and water birds.

As mentioned above,I stop at Lierganes every year on the way home ,great stopover for a day or two.

We stayed here for 2 nights before getting the boat back from Santander in September.
Between Santander and bilbao- huge site with full facilities and next to the beach.

Thanks for that. Stayed at Playa Joyel in 2015 on our first trip to Europe. Towing a caravan at the time which convinced us to switch to motorhome! As you say nice site but very big and a bit out of town. Would prefer a smaller site if possible where we can walk into the local town.

Orio Kanpina, beside the sea, nice little place and very relaxed, with quick direct train to San Sebastian. We usually stay there prior to catching ferry home.

Probably about hour and a half along motorway.

We stopped at wecamp Igueldo just outside San seb… nice site and a bus stop into the town right outside the gates
