I am looking at my options for refillable bottles and l like the idea of the removable option. Can you refill these whilst they are situated in the locker or is this generally not an acceptable method? We are embarking on our first trip to France in the summer. I currently have 13 & 6kg calor set up but l know that the options for replacements are limited in France.

They exist but are very rare they hardly ever have them in stock.

I don’t think they are using the Rotarex multivalve anymore.
We have the new style composite refillable cylinders in stock that are the same as Gasbank .
I do have to laugh at all these companies that try to brand things as their own products, most LPG products are made by a very small number of companies and then badged up 😂

They seem to have gone to a lot of trouble just to have an outside fill nozzle.

When i go to fill my safefill bottle its always been laid down in my boot without problems, its only liquid at the end of the day, i always understood it has to be upright when in use.

Must be a fair bit of 'blowback' when disconnecting given the amount of liquid in the pipe, even if it's fairly short.
Just what I was thinking and at very high pressure, not something I would want to do, could be quite dangerous.

Just the small bit from disconnecting the gun is one thing. A hose full must be quite a significant blowback. A ball valve lever to close off before disconnecting hose would be better surely?

I think he means just for transporting not actually filling.
Safefill actually say not to transport the cylinders on their side , there’s been a few reports of overfilled cylinders after doing it .
But the wider issue is no (vapour) gas cylinder should ever be stored , used or transported on its side , the consequences of the pressure relief valve opening in a car and emitting LPG in its liquid state are pretty scary.
Yes it’s a very real risk if you have had the cylinder on its side before filling.
Here’s LPG in liquid state venting safely outdoors, imagine that in a car .

Tony the Manc'

In Spain you can only get butane in the small bottles and only Resol do them, they are expensive compared to the larger one's, both Repsol and Cepsa do propane and butane in those. 😎

The small bottles are short and fat unlike Calor take up more space in the locker. 😁 Bob.

Do you need a special adaptor to fill a safefill bottle at a French petrol station? I have only filled ours twice at a Morrison’s and seem to remember that the connection was a bayonet type connection on the bottle and a push and rotate affair on the LPG pump nozzle. If I do need an adaptor, which type and where from please?

Cheers!

I also use Gaslow refillable. The filler cap was originally in the locker and this became a real problem in Italy where it is no longer legal to fill bottles ever since one exploded on a forecourt (whether or not they have a safe-fill limit like Gaslow). However, if the cap is on the outside and they can't see the bottle then many would not have a problem with that. As the garage said 'if they can't see the bottle (or the locker) then they don't know it's a bottle' and wouldn't be liable. So I've moved the filler cap to outside the van.

I have the gasit system with filler inside the door so open it to fill the bottles, had a bit of a problem filling in Spain last week so got the lady to fill it for me never batted an eyebrow stuck the pipe inside and filled them up.
