Safari Park in a motorhome ?

If you keep moving, it's usually fine. There's usually a lane for stopping and a lane for moving. The problem is when someone decides they want to stop in the moving lane and force you to stop. They should have a liability clause so you pay for damages for the vehicle behind if you stop in the wrong lane.

Would you drive through Toxteth with your windows open and mobile phone and wallet on the dash? If the answer is no, then a safari park should be a big "NO" too

I think if we can drive through Southern Africa in a motorhome, Namibia and the Kalahari you should be fine. A group of monkeys did steal my sun glasses which I left on the bonnet and an elephant gave us fair warning with trunk raised and a small charge. Nothing to worry about go for it.

But monkeys in a Safari park have little fear of predators and have got used to a steady stream of cars.
The two scenarios are too different for you to use your brill experience as a reference, IMO 👍🏻😎

My son in law decided to drive through Knowsley Safari Park in his own car , not a good idea as the monkeys ripped off his window washer covers x3 and he had to order new ones from Volvo and then had to spray them to match as they come unpainted .

I worked at Woburn Safari Park many years ago and we used to have bets on which cars would be minus what after going round.
Remembering that there is no way I would take a Motorhome or car round!
It’s not just the Monkeys!

We had our bikes stolen,Fortunately we had removed the batteries.
Not Hondas

Did the elephant take a credit card or did you have to pay in dollars? :giggle:

We did Woburn Safari Park in a nearly new Espace in the early 90's and it bears the scars to this day. Rubber trim along the roof rails pulled loose, aerial left facing forward like a rhino horn, rear wiper bent and still misses a bit in the rain. Never again unless it's someone else's car.

Suffered a lot of damage to a Land Rover discovery at Knowsley safari park. Was funny though the grandkids loved it. But never in a motorhome
We took the kids to Knowsley Safari Park in the 70's in our Rover SD1. Felt a jolting whist going slowly through the lion enclosure and on exiting the park found one had chewed the bumper!

Similar story to mine - brand new white Rover 620is with spoiler on boot lid. I didn’t realise that the spoiler was made of a dense black foam until the monkies took bites out of it. Good job it was a company car 😂

Ever seen a monkeys undercarriage through a glass sunroof. Not a nice site I can tell you. Think it damaged my grandkids for life😂😂😂😂

The bus through Longleat is excellent. - you get a running commentary, lots of anecdotes of stupid people's antics and the zoo keepers from the tv programme identified.

Another vote for the Longleat Safari Bus!

We stayed at the Longleat CAMC Site at the weekend for a couple of nights en route to the SW. It's a really great site, just a short walk from the entrance to the back gate to the Longleat Safari Park, and a 5 minute walk from there to the Guest Centre.

The double decker Safari Bus runs twice a day (11:00 and 14:00 I think) and the bus is not bookable in advance - tickets are an additional +£8 per adult on top of the general admission ticket (which do need to be booked in advance), and the bus tickets are available from Guest Services. With Covid, they've restricted the number of passengers and they've installed air purifier units to each seat - plus of course facemasks are required.

The commentary was really enjoyable, very informative and very amusing. We were on the bus 2.5 hrs. The top deck gives a great vantage point - especially when going through the Monkey Enclosure! 🐒

In the Monkey Enclosure, the car component of choice seemed to be parking sensors and in the 20 mins or so that we were in the Enclosure on the bus, we spotted two cars having parking sensors removed - complete with a fair amount of cabling attached!! We also saw aerials (photo) and wiper blades being removed. So we were pleased we weren't in our motorhome (or car for that matter)! There is a bypass to the Monkey Enclosure so you could still do the rest of the Safari Drive if you really wanted to I guess.... 🐒

Why are the monkeys so destructive? Is it simply they are bored as unlike in the wild they have no real threats and don't need to forage for food. Do the parent monkeys teach the youngsters what to do? If the bus goes through twice daily, how come it hasn't been prised apart?

Very useful, we are going in about 3 weeks and will definately use the bus

Just a heads up that you can use Tesco vouchers for 3X the value for the entry fee, to Longleats, Might be a good use for all those vouchers saved from tunnel crossings
