Yes or no? Seems straight forward to fit do they make a big difference?

Well that got some thought processes going looks as though SOG it is then! Oh and never leave it till its full or empty it barefoot as in the video 🤣😂 thanks guys.

Having recently installed a roof mounted SOG after reading Lenny HB modding exploits (y), I don't have that feted smell in the van. Chausson raised the loo and shower area on a false floor, which was vented into the hab area and included odours from the cassette:sick:. There were 2 holes in both floors directly below where the Thetford fan would fit, unfortunately the lower external hole had been sealed up during the van build. The SOG has ensured a sweet smelling van, all the time(y)

I've had SOG's with door mounted filters, through the floor filters, and a roof vent.

The roof vent is definitely works the best & it doesn't have a filter so no running costs. I recently converted my through the floor one to a roof vent, the only downside is with the wind in the wrong direction & a rooflight open you can get your own back.

The trough the floor ones work reasonably well although the say the filters need changing once a year they really need changing every 3 months. The filters are £25 but easy to refill yourself with active charcoal for about 3 quid.

The door vent ones keep the smell out of the van but can get pongy outside the van again they say change the filter once a year but it really needs changing every month or two. Anything but the genuine filters don't work very well. I really don't think it's worth fitting this type.

The Thetford version has a more powerful fan but they vent out directly under the loo and if the filters aren't changed every few weeks it gets smelly outside but you can refill the filters.

A roof vent SOG is definitely the best option.
When we were last away a week or so back, and after reading another thread on here, had a wee look when removing our cassette for emptying and lo and behold there's a Thetford filter cartridge underneath it!
So guess we've got a sog. Since we've had the van from about a year old (now 8 1/2 years old) I would guess it's the original filter! :whistle2:
Anyway. my biggest mistake was to tell management who the following day advised I need to replace the filter as the toilet was ponging! So, checks out the pricing and eh whit!!!

Since the van's in storage any idea how easy is it to replace the contents in the filter and what am I looking to replace it with \ from where, kind sir?:notworthy2:

We have sog roof vented but I still pop a bit of washing powder in as it stops and build up in the cassette, I would fit a stronger sog fan if they did one, as we still get a smell coming up from the toilet when the flap is open.
I have checked all pipes and roof vent all clear.
That's not right, you shouldn't get a smell inside. You need to check the fan is working. It's possible it has become loose on the shaft and isn't being spun by the motor. You could try disconnecting the pipe from the fan outlet and see if it is moving any air. A lit match should show if it is doing anything but to save your eyebrows use an empty cassette. :)

Active charcoal pellets, they are sold for fish tanks. No experance of the Thetford but I think you either force it apart then fix back with self taper or cut a hole about 20mm then fit a blanking Gromett or cut down wine bottle cork.

The toilet shouldn't be smelly inside the MH. If it is check the fan is working. You should hear a quiet whirring sound when you pull the flap out. If you don't it's broken somewhere. Our van is 8 years old and I've never changed the filter and there is no detectable smell outside - but I do add a dollop of bio liquid after each emptying.

Yes plenty of whirring and even been on the roof and it blows out ok but still smells in the loo👍

If the vent does not have a decent cover on it there could be a downdraft causing your problem.

Something's not right as there really should be no smell. You could check the fan is actually drawing air from the cassette. Find a smoker and ask them to blow smoke onto the cassette with the flap open. :)

Think management was just having a moan 'cause I hadn't changed the filter!
Will check fan operation when next out at the van.
