Run to the sun….

Laos is definitely on the list. We might do a travelogue in the U shaped lounge, not sure its appropriate though as no motorhomes involved.
Luang Prubang is supposed to be very nice but air travel in Laos is apparently very dangerous.

Luang Probang was an oasis in a wilderness 10 years ago. We crossed from Myanmar into Northern Thailand and stayed a couple of weeks in Chang Mai, had a great time there after the some what ‘raw’ experience in MM. We then caught a bus up to the border with Laos on the Mekong. After that the ‘Slow Boat’ to LP. It took the best part of 2 days with an over night stop, I think the boat cost £10. A great experience which you won’t regret.

Put it all in this thread… we could do “Around the world in 180 days..” ..😂

Seriously love to see pictures then saves me going looking for them..🙂

I have no problem with this thread going off on a tangent, it’s all connected in some way and I’m sure others like to read other’s travels as well as mine, as I do too…😎

Dam… when I started to record him I had to put the phone on its holder and he walked round to my side so I pressed the off button thinking it would still record but it didn’t, I’ll have to look at my dash cam but I think I turned the engine off and it goes off after a minute or so…

But here’s the bit I got..

STOPPED by COPs

As I left the campsite this morning I took the feeder lane from the roundabout then parked up outside the shop to get some water, walking cop comes up behind me and taps on passenger window.. winds down and he’s English was no good.. best I could understand was I was supposed to stop before coming of the feeder lane shows me a piece of paper with 400dh on it I said no.. take me to the police station, I saw he turned off his camera so I got my phone said don’t turn off I will video too.. he then waved his finger and started to get the arse, so I put the phone back on the holder and inspector came over who spoke better English and again said I didn’t stop..
I said sorry but the sign is in Arabic and I thought the feeder lane was ok so I said thank you for the warning but I’m not paying 400dh he took all my paperwork and gave them back one by one and started talking about someone in England.. other cop wanted to see my phone I said no.. inspector said go, welcome to Morocco…😆😂

Chancer …😏
Too greedy.
100-200dhs you probably wouldn't have argued.

Probably…😆

Don’t get me wrong, I’m being very carful out here with my driving and if I do, do something wrong then I’ll pay the fine but 400dh for not stopping which wasn’t obvious to stop and the thing is I was going really slow anyway, I would have thought a warning is sufficient not paying in his months wages…😏

Fiddlesticks all….😆 but I could make a tidy little sum begging out here if I roughed myself up a bit put on me Moroccan jacket and took my teeth out then sat on a skateboard….😎
Sorry Gary but this market has been running for a thousand years. If you did that then you would likely make world headlines for ending it! Probably it would begin again a thousand miles further south. Not saying you're not pretty mind

Hijacking’s Garry’s thread as I know he doesn’t mind 😂😂. Do you have any accommodation booked or just winging it as you go, we had hoped to go around this time but granddaughter arriving has delayed. We’re not wanting to book too much in advance so if you’re just winging it we’d certainly be interested on how it goes. Sophie did Asia after uni and says it’s dead easy to find accommodation, I don’t think she realises we’re in our mid 50s so might want slightly comfier than she had 😂😂

Apologies Garry for going off thread.

Sorry Gary,

We have flights to Singapore and a hotel booked for two nights, then flights to Hanoi with a hotel booked of three nights after that nothing booked. The hotels were booked using Tesco vouchers, so free otherwise we may not have booked them. We will be backpacking, but staying in comfortable accommodation. We have obviously researched places of interest but will go with the flow much as you do in the motorhome. The only place we have to be is Bangkok six weeks later. Claire has been to Thailand before so we will probably not do much of that focussing on Vietnam, Cambodia and especially Laos. There's loads of fairly inexpensive accommodation of a reasonable standard and in many cases you can fly, bus, train, boat or even hired mini bus to get places.

We started backpacking when we were around 50 and we are now over pension age. However we are now termed dragpackers as our rucksacks have wheels as well. We very rarely book anything apart from our first and last night for flights. In the early days we used Lonely Planet to get an idea of where accommodation was then just went from door to door until we found something we liked at a price we liked. It’s amazing what deals you can do on the doorstep. Now with the internet it’s easy to find the same areas with a booking site, but turn up just the same and negotiate. There’s always a good deal to be done regardless of comfy levels. A good tip is overnight trains and buses, travel and accommodation sorted at the same time.

I’d love to do the far east and just wing it but with my situation I realise I would have to do some planning but I’m not a planner, I usually don’t know what I’m doing tomorrow let alone next year…

I’ve committed to something later in the year and that’s areal first for me, I think that’s why I like motorhoming as it hit the road and go where I like…
But do keep these comments coming as it give me ideas…👍🏼☀️😎

Our accommodation in Luang Prabang found by wandering the budget area. Mrs Barryh under the brolley. It would have been just a few pounds, probably £5 or so. We have stayed in huts for a couple of quid. Prices will have moved on of course since 2011.

Being a military man planning and preparing makes for an effective and efficient outcome!

That doesn’t mean I made all the decisions but I had to make it happen!

It took years for me to stand back and accept I was going where and when without any input from me. Just follow!!!

It was kinda scary 😧 at first.

Owning a motorhome certainly helped.

I can understand your situation means you may need to think it through a little more. We are going to try to do the trip like a motorhome home one with an end point time and date, but who knows. I might set up a post I the u-shaped lounge about it nearer the time. There is a surprising amount of organising to do before hand though for things we need.

We have budgeted comfortable accommodation to cost up to £30 per night, but it depends on where you are and I think will be £15-£20 in many places.
