Our first motorhome holiday. I am planning a trip starting in Manchester and would like to include a Wales tour. Will be travelling in August with 2 kids 3y.o and 8y.o. Any route planner anyone could share? Are there any apps that help plan the route?

Hi welcome 🤗

How long you planning on touring, what sort of things do you have in mind; beach, castles, walking etc.

There’s loads to see. Some of the more popular places may well be booked and crowded in August

Strongly recommend St Davids, Freshwater East, 3 cliffs bay, Forrest fields camp site, Chirk, Brecon Beacons (old name), Cardiff site if you want to visit the city (take care with cycles).

Newport pembs is lovely

Basically decide of you want beaches (likely to be busy), castles or hills.

A roads are fine with a MH, research any B roads

Tenby is lovely but might be busy in August.

Oakwood Theme Park might suit the little ones but many years since we were there.

Aberystwyth has a camera obscura.

There are so many gorgeous views/places in Wales it's hard to know where to begin.
Carrog near Corwen is probably a good place to start. Should take less than 2hrs driving to get there Nice Campsite by the steam train station to give you a choo-choo ride to Llangollen/Corwen. After a couple of nights there carry on up the A5 to Betws Y Coed for a couple of hours. No shortage of campsites on that route.
Whatever you decide, I hope the sun shines for you - that's something I can't guarantee.

P.S. On your way to Carrog - stop off for an hour to take a peek at the Pontysyllte viaduct between Wrexham and Llangollen. Highly recommended.

Oh and there is a soft play place on the pier in Llandudno.

The great little trains of Wales may be of interest?

Also near Pumsaint is a Roman Gold Mine where you can pan for gold and do an underground tour. There used to be a fairly basic campsite where if you stayed you got into the gold mine for free. On a hot day panning for gold is fun.

+1 for Llangollen...try to take in the horse Shoe Pass and the Chain Bridge Hotel and if possible a little further up is where the Dee becomes the canal...full of canoes and dingies going over the weir....
