[ROOKIE QUESTION] What has been your experience in parking in a layby oron a road overight?

What happens when you decide to make an overnight stop on the street or in a layby?
Do you get moved on by the old bill?
I guess I have concerns about drunks or nasty guys trying to nick it or damage it.

Can some of the more experienced peeps let me know their experiences please?
