a class 890 hymer
Hello to all of you and especially to those of you lucky or unlucky enough to have a front windscreen internal electric "roller shutter" thermal blind.

We have one which came fitted to our new Hymer.
However on most journeys and especially on the rougher A and B class roads the noise from the vibrations potholes and road surfaces is driving us bonkers. Wondered if anyone had addressed this with the dealer/manufacturer ? Or if anyone has solved it on their own????

We have tried foam but that only works on the side guides but doesn't stop the coil of shutter slats vibrating/shaking internally and at the mid part of the windscreen/blind. I feel that a roll of foam that wound its way up when closing the blind would stop this however I don't know the mechanism for the sprockets/roller or motor and as that would get thicker as the reel was wound up it may distort and damage the blind. Any ideas from more experienced folk than us would be appreciated.????
Would be good if I could identify the manufacturer and get the schematics/installation drawings.
I will ask Hymer but expect that to come back like previous replies or not at all.
Thanks

They work like garage door roller shutters. The central spindle is anchored and the motor outer rotates with the drum around which the blind is stored. I don't know how it knows when the blind is up or down but it's likely to be an internal limit switch or, more likely, an over-current trip. Assuming there isn't a fault and the blind works as it should I would motor it fully up then loosen the spindle attachments to the van. Rotate the drum and spindle by hand until the shutter is under tension then re-tighten. My shutter is slightly weird in that it works off 230v and the van has an inverter just for that purpose.

Just to add to my previous post #22 we have had Goldschmidt full air since van was new and the roller shutter still rattles occasionally 🤔

There must be a fault, we re on our third N&B 15 years over 100k miles, 4 Morocco trips, lots of Italian expansion joints and even some of Britain and none of ours have noticeably rattled.
I was in Travelworld on Tuesday and took the opportunity to inspect all their showroom Motorhome blinds.
Results were they all had a degree of “free play” and rattled. Most a little bit less than ours but still some rattle
One N&B rattled less than most but it wasn’t fully free from any rattle. I contacted Hymer direct and they were their usual unhelpful selves referring me back to the dealer!. Shame on them.

Thanks that’s how I understand it works.

I am thinking some padded tape in 2 vertical from too to bottom roughly one third of the blind width apart may just create enough dampening to stop the rattle. The difficulty will be to get the tape to the right thickness as the total diameter rolled up will cumulative Luke increase and may be to great for the housing! Failing that 2 diagonals so that it rolls up in a helix/ spiral so it only changes the diameter by the single thickness of the tape. Another issue here is when the blind is fully down the blind slats (“compress”)rest on top of each other and the tape would then be gapping at each slat intersection. Any thoughts out there please from engineers or those practical funsters ???? Really need a NV&H engineer on this!

We have a Hymer BDL 4 years old now been down some horrendous tracks & roads never had any rattles from it. As its a new van the dealer should sort it if you play with it yourself the dealer will wash his hands of it.
Our blind may be quiet but the drop down bed rattles on rough roads.

On that note, does anyone have any neat tricks from stopping the drop down bed rattling? We had a Carado(I449) A class and stuffed foam each side and that did the trick but it wasn't elegant. The Hymer however is less accessible to doing this and has not worked. I am now thinking either I am obssessive about noise or there should be a specific location on this forum for sharing combatting noise. The engine noise in the Hymer A class on the Sprinter is much reduced over the Carado so I'm happier with that. Thanks to all !

I sprayed all the all the bolts and fixings on the bed with silicone didn't make any odds. Some say putting a duvet on the bed helps. At the mo ment we have got some clothes up there it's helped until we went down a really rough road. Ours only only rattles on the drivers side (LHD).
Problem is their is very little room to get stuff up there even with a few clothes I struggle to get the latches to engage.

Yes strange that, mine always rattled on the Drivers side but both motorhomes were R.H.D. but its not because that's the side I sit on ! Wonder if electric ones are any different. I am going to remove the safety bar and net as only adults will sleep in there. Will save a little bit of weight and may reduce the noise by a millionth of a decibel ! LOL
You need to pull the curtains back and have a look then.
Unfortunately behind the curtains is a bulkhead housing the blind which appears extremely difficult to remove.Dont want to get into that at this point otherwise it gives them an excuse to avoid any warranty claim.

have you tried asking TW where the manual operation for the blind is?

Very funny Lenny ::bigsmile:

Where the handle or whatever is found?
I was serious as I couldn't find it first time I looked on my van.
The handle for mine was left in the garage I've put it under the front edge of the mattress on the drop down bed.

I wonder if a photo of your handle would help Margaux2 identify what they are looking for?
Thanks appreciated but I cant see any handle anywhere. Will address this with TW. My manual is in the motorhome and this is back at TW getting the table reworked because it was heavily marked, the air con checking and the battery checking as it goes flat in a week. That despite their replacing the battery previously because it was "deformed"! Very unimpressed with this motorhome so far despite its huge price tag! Considering a change to a LeVoyageur Signature or N&B but no longer a fan of front wheel drive. So that means a Flair which is too expensive!

Kitchens are crap in the newer Flairs unless you go for the really big one.

Why don't you have a troll through mobile.de and buy one someone has already ironed out the bugs that - by the way will be a lot cheaper, have less emission control crap on it and probably better made?

Can't miss it it's about 4ft long.

Hymers are only a mid range van so you get mid range quality, I always buy abroad and import mine I won't pay silly UK prices.

Thanks for this, its a very long handle isnt it, almost like an awning handle!
I did have a look at the site but nothing came up against the parameters /filters. Nice Concorde but above my budget ! LOL.
Thanks again.
