a class 890 hymer
Hello to all of you and especially to those of you lucky or unlucky enough to have a front windscreen internal electric "roller shutter" thermal blind.

We have one which came fitted to our new Hymer.
However on most journeys and especially on the rougher A and B class roads the noise from the vibrations potholes and road surfaces is driving us bonkers. Wondered if anyone had addressed this with the dealer/manufacturer ? Or if anyone has solved it on their own????

We have tried foam but that only works on the side guides but doesn't stop the coil of shutter slats vibrating/shaking internally and at the mid part of the windscreen/blind. I feel that a roll of foam that wound its way up when closing the blind would stop this however I don't know the mechanism for the sprockets/roller or motor and as that would get thicker as the reel was wound up it may distort and damage the blind. Any ideas from more experienced folk than us would be appreciated.????
Would be good if I could identify the manufacturer and get the schematics/installation drawings.
I will ask Hymer but expect that to come back like previous replies or not at all.
Thanks

There must be a fault, we re on our third N&B 15 years over 100k miles, 4 Morocco trips, lots of Italian expansion joints and even some of Britain and none of ours have noticeably rattled.

we have a Hymer with an electrical roller shutter and no noise when travelling at all - agree that there must be a fault and as it's potentially in your sight line when diving I would get it professionally investigated pretty soon.

Thanks, could you explain lots of Zitslisn expansion joints” please?

I have an electric roller shutter blind too and no noise at all from mine when driving. The Italian expansion joints are on the entry and exit of bridges so depending on your route in Italy you may be subject to them quite a lot and they can be very unforgiving, it’s like a very small gap but as your tires go over them it’s like a loud ‘thud’ 🤦‍♂️

I get it now yes most bridges or flyovers have these and they are noisy. Glad yours is ok!
Appreciate the feedback.

Margaux2. Not electric, but our manual pre tensioned and counter balanced, roller shutter blind doesn't rattle or creak either.

I detest rattles of any kind when driving, so good luck getting it sorted. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Mine on a Le Voyageur doesn't rattle either. It sounds as though it isn't going fully up. I assume they must be 'up' under slight tension to stop rattles.

No sorry I have no idea what Zitsilisn means

Don't you just hate autocorreckt!
Apologies
It was meant to read Italian expansion joints!
Yep just hate autocorrect especially when it changes something from sensible to gibberish!

Thanks it was going fully up previously and rattled they changed the”calibration so it was showing 2 slats but these were above the windscreen. They did this to stop the rattle and it didn’t work. When it broke the second time I pushed it manually all the way up and all the slats disappeared and it still rattled!
I solved the problem of an even worse rattle that sounded like the front pull down bed was about to break or the awning was coming off. Turned out Hymer had forgotten to put into the offside side front fairing 2 self tapping screws underneath the Motorhome. Travelworld fixed that when I pointed it out to them. Seems they don’t do PDI’s on new vans. Very sloppy and amateurish.

Ours doesn’t rattle and we don’t always have it right up as it I’d the sun screen when needed
That’s good
I trust you turn the anti drop diwnnn B levers. Through 90 degrees when you do this?

Has anyone had one break in the down position and how do you lift i because to get to the workings is a major job

Yes I have twice
I manually forced it up half way and turned the side levers to retain it halfway
Fine for driving but you don’t get the panorama you normally get.
Second time I forced it to hard and the entire blind disappeared from view. Both times the dealer Travelworld fixed it in a couple of hours! Still got the rattle!

No the sun can be lower but never done it anyway
Nor us, never had a problem, but it probably is a good idea if they know they've got a fault.

N&Bs have a handle to crank it up If you ve got a bed it will be behind the curtains or if not in a cupboard. I imagine anything with a solid shutter will have to have something although I wouldnt be completely surprised to learn that its been ditched in the name of weight saving.

If Margaux2 have forced it up I wonder if you ve damaged the mechanism and that is whats rattling

They say the mechanism isnt damaged despite my explaing what I did and asking if a sprovket may be broken. Apparently the dont work on a sprocket just a central drum with the motor(s) inside. That does not explain the rattle. Have emailed Hymer but they still havent replied to my last one a week ago!

There will either be a gear on it somewhere or if it goes inside then there will be a fastening to the casing, for it to work one part of it will have to be anchored. Do you have the front bed?

We have a Hymer B678DL and the roller blind on ours rattles occasionally I don’t know why but its not all of the time.🤔

Our handle is above the passenger door behind a wooden panel which has to be removed. The roller doesn't rattle but the rest of the van did until semi air cured all.

Front end is always quite hard on a Fiat, Air improves them massively.

Had to get to mine remove 30 screws holding the curtain up then remove ply cover took 50 minutes just to get to the mechanical bits

Yes the front bed!
If the shutter is attached to the drum that’s the only way I can think there is no hear or sprocket?

Is your semi air at the back axle and is it a single axle?
